Looking for a way see if IMDb movies are adapted from comic books, literature, or a true story. I've looked throughout the website and haven't found a foolproof method.

There should usually be a keyword starting with based-on.

The writer credits may also mention the form of the source material.

Expanding on what Peter said, keywords you might find helpful:
Based On Comic Book (1 936 titles)
Based On True Story (5 332 titles)
Based On Novel (31 130 titles)

Keep in mind that keywords could be readjusted to display alphabetically, based on release date and in some other intricate ways. By default they usually go with the more popular titles at the moment. Keywords, of course, also could be found on their respective pages in each title.

Looks like I can't access any movies passed 10,000 in the 31,130 listed movies for Based on Novel. The next button is broken on page 200.

Yup, not even if I alter the URL to start at page 201; with that I get error 404.

Unfortunately, 10,000 is a frequent barrier on IMDb. Lists cannot have more than that quantity, for instance.

You might want to use release year ranges to break this query into pieces.

Remember that keywords are contributed by users of IMDb, and may not be present on all relevant titles.
