Trying to add a credit as Music Department/Composer: Additional music. It only allows me to type a certain amount of characters, then cuts me off and I'm unable to complete the submission.

If it involves submitting a credit in the Music Department section, you can click the drop-down arrow to the right of the word Choose and click the job title composer: additional music instead of typing out the data.

If it has nothing to do with an occupation/job title, please describe what data you are trying to type.

Thanks for your reply.  I'm on the Updating Information page, in the Filmography (non-acting) section trying to add 1 credit to Music Department member Credits.  I've already chosen my occupation as composer: additional music and am trying to fill in the Title data.  It only allows me to type 50 characters, and "Driven to Love" (2016) {Don't Hate the Player (#1.8)} is 54 characters, so I can't enter it all and get rejected.  Have I missed an update to IMDB's data entry procedure?

Usually, it is better to add credits directly to the episode's title page instead of adding the data from a name page. You would need to type the series and episode numbers and symbols exactly the way it is stored in the database.

The other way around it would be to type the episode's tt number in the Title section, which is located in the URL. (tt7489428)

I hope this helps.

Steve: I tested this, and I think there must be a bug in the software, because there are probably a lot of titles that are over 50 characters long and you shouldn't be prevented from entering the whole title.

Fortunately, there is an easy workaround for this. Just go to the IMDb page for the episode itself (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7489428/), click "Edit page", and go through the process to submit 1 credit to the Music Department. That way, instead of having to enter the full episode title, you will enter your name instead.

In fact, I usually recommend that people add their episode credits by starting from the episode page rather than their own name page, due to the difficulty in remembering how to format an episode title on IMDb. (In this case, however, you already knew how to format the episode title correctly, but you happened to get your title blocked by a software bug that IMDb needs to fix.)

Good luck!

Thanks both of you for your replies!  I was certainly going about it the long way, to be sure...  BUT, I still encounter the same issue.  When I select Edit Page on the Episode Page and then select Add 1 credit to the Music Department, I’m directed to a page where I have to select my occupation and once again fill in the missing title and episode info.  Am I doing it wrong still?

The headers you should see on the Update Information page you clicked to are below.

Action  Name  Occupation  Attribute (usually empty)

Type out your name under the Name header. Preferably, in reverse order.

Wilkinson, Steve (Roman numeral)

How to I add the tt7489428 to the Title section?  I’ve tried that as well to no avail.

Hi Steve. I don't know if I have the right 'Steve Wilkinson' but the example would still work. First of all, to add a credit via a title i.d. number, the title has to already exist, obviously. And assuming this is the first credit in that episode, the episode won't show up on your page, so let's say you have the various credits for season 5 of "Basketball Wives LA" for 'composer: additional music' but you wanted to add episode #5.6 to it, which isn't on your page. Get into the EDIT mode for your page and select 'Correct/Delete' on the right side drop-down menu and then click CONTINUE at the bottom. This will show all the episodes you're credited with. You could have selected 'add 1 credit instead' but this way shows your existing credits. Now select '1 credit' in the bottom left drop-down Add box and click CHECK THESE UPDATES. To find the episode click on one of the episodes for that title and open it in a new tab or window, click on 'all episodes', select the season in the drop-down menu (in this case 5) on the left. All the episodes that now exist for that season will be listed. Click on Episode 5.6. Now, in the browser window you will see: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5902496/reference. Select and exactly copy "tt5902496", that's your title i.d. number. Go back to the other tab/window and paste it into the empty title box at the bottom.

Then type or copy/paste your occupation in the next field and any attribute (if needed). Click CHECK THESE UPDATES and if you're lucky you will get the wondrous green window.

You are now ready to click on the SUBMIT button. Of course you can add however many episodes you want. This is the hard way to do this, but you wanted to know. Good luck and have fun.

Hi all,

Thanks for helping! I've cut a ticket to the relevant team to look at extending the maximum character length for this text box as this shouldn't be happening, however as gromit82 and NickBianco helpfully suggest it is easier to add the credit directly from the episode or use the ttconst of the episode in the text box instead.

Regards,
Will

Hi Adrian -

I just reviewed the ticket and can confirm that it is still pending investigation by the appropriate technical team.   As soon as we have an update on the status we will be sure to post it here. Thanks again for your patience!
