I bought some days ago a Special Edition DVD of "Vincent & Theo" (1990). That edition includes the 134 minutes theatrical cut and the original TV miniseries that runs 204 minutes. I think we could add the miniseries in the database. There's a 4 episodes miniserie who runs 70 more minutes that the theatrical cut. And there's more cast that was cut from the film. I tried to add it the other day (that's the uploading no 140916-121741-506000). It was added but wanished in 24 hours... Why?

Hi David -

We list titles under the type that they were first released under, so if "Vincent & Theo" was first released theatrically, it will be listed on the site as a film.  However, if it was released differently later, such as on TV, that information will be documented under the Release Dates section here.

Hello.
According to the site, it was first released on Netherlands and then in France on TV. But it's not clear if the movie was released first on it's TV version. On trivia it's says "Originally designed to be a four-hour mini-series for the BBC."

Is there any solid and verifiable (not just unconfirmed secondary) evidence available to indicate that the miniseries aired on TV before the theatrical edition was released?

I tried to find information, but it's difficult to find... But the problem is that we're talking about 4 episodes of 200 minutes reduced to 132 minutes. There's actors that only appears in the TV series. Where I put their credits then? It's redundant to put them "uncredited" in the film... This also happened to "Das Boot". There's the original TV series and the recut version released as a movie. This is the same.

Can we just no "transform" the movie data, but add another one from the "Miniseries"? Just like "Das Boot" has? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081834/?ref_=nv_sr_2

This is a good question why (e.g.) Das Booth has two IMDb entries and many others have not. Obviously it's a "classic" and very well known film, but still.

Especially in Europe, many theatrical films are also shown (usually later) as a TV miniseries. Most of these films do not have separate (TV) entry in IMDb, mainly notes in "Alternate version" section.

Also, if some actor/crew member appears in the TV version but NOT in the theatrical version, they should be allowed to be added with an attribute like "TV version". TV version is as "officially" released as the theatrical version (deleted/alternate/extended scenes in the DVD/Blu-ray releases are another matter).

The same issue exists for documentaries. For example Frozen Planet is a tv-miniserie of eight episodes. Later it is released as set of dvd's but a set of four with on each dvd 2 episodes.  I bought that set and ripped to my server and want be able to stream it to my tv using a media-box. In that media-box a library is created using sites like IMDB for scraping the necessary metadata. So how can I solve this?

I think there should be an addiotional data sheet for the TV Series and not just for the movie. Why then there's 2 for "DAS BOOT" film & series. It's the same situation. Why "Das Boot" and not "Van Gogh"?
