TV series + compilation episode?

( This is a spin off from the older thread here: https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/the-end-year-of-the-tv-series-when-the-last-season-is-a-reru... )

I came across with a six-part TV series, which then has an additional "episode 7" (if you will) that's actually a longer "compilation episode" of the series (shown roughly a month after the last episode 6).

I assume that I don't add "episode 7" to the series, but add info about it in the "Alternate versions" section?

Or perhaps I'm mistaken and the "episode 7" is actually part of the series?

( Note, that this "episode 7" is not a rerun of one single episode - it's a compilation that has material from episodes 1-6. But it doesn't have any "new" material as far as I know. )

Thanks.

This stuff is too convoluted and sometimes plain confusing.

Hi Eboy,

My 2 cents: if it is a digest of the 6 episodes in one program, it should be considered as a parallel standalone work, with a "edited into" connection from the original series.

IMO, it one of two things:

1) Episode 7 of the series.
2) ”Alternate version” of the series (hence, it belongs to ”Alternate versios” section).

It’s merely confusing if it’s added as a standalone work. But let’s wait for the official reply.

Yes, the alternate version information sounds very OK as well.

Trying to capitalize on similar occurrences, was not there the case for a digest of the "Godfather"? Besides I know there have been some miniseries on French TV, which have been released in theater as a shorter overall version. I think that was the case for Robert Hossein's "Les Misérables". I will research on this later on.

You’re correct. ”The Godfather” mini-series is listed on IMDb as an individual entry: https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0809488/

Same thing with ”Das Boot” and probably some other titles. But both of these have ”new” material added (movies re-edited and expanded to mini-series), are classic titles etc, so I guess they’re exceptions of the rule.

In my case, there’s no new material. If I recall, it’s a 16+ minute version, including material mainly from episodes 1-3. The original 6-part series runs roughly 60 min altogether. So I would say adding this (16+ min episode) as an individual entry would be a bit overkill.

Hi Eboy,

If there was no new material included in the episode and it was the last episode in the run I would advise listing the details in the alternate versions section.

I hope this helps.
