First of all, I'd like to say that I'm quite happy with the rating system already in place. Even though some people vote too high or too low for a lot of movies, I believe it helps to show the average of love/hate towards a movie.

That being said, I've been thinking about that if we could also rate movies by categories would help tremendously the common user/viewer.

For example, sometimes I'm trying to search for a good comedy to watch and just relax, but 90%(?) of comedies are rated low, between 4 and 6, making it really hard to decide what would be worth a watch or not.

My idea is to keep the current rating system that's in place, and to add a new rating, a category rating. This could be tricky, since movies are usually classified for more than one category. Either the admins, or the users, could select the main category for every movie, or we could be able to vote for each category of every movie.

Since the ratings are optional, I don't believe it would "damage" our experience as users of the website, but I believe that most of us that vote for movies also do it to help the people to know what is good and what is bad out there.

What do you think about this?
