Unable to send private message; server error

I have been trying to contact someone via private message and this error always comes up.  I haven't used the private message service before on IMDB so I had to verify my account but this error constantly comes up despite that being done. 

Any thoughts on how to fix this?

Are you receiving this error message for every private message (PM) you send on IMDb? If not, it's possible the intended recipient may have your posts blocked.

If you would like to test your ability to send PMs, you can try sending me a test PM.

Let's try one more test. Please send another PM to http://www.imdb.com/user/ur0127678/ . I've temporarily blocked messages from you.

If you get the same error message as you reported in your original post, then we know your intended recipient blocked PMs from your. Otherwise, there is another technical problem that we can document for IMDb's technical staff to debug.

Once you've sent the PM, please respond in this post so I can unblock messages from you.

So I sent two messages for you.  Just to be doubly sure.  They went out with no problems.  It must be a technical issue then.

Hi Johannes Wigand,

I unblocked messages from your account.

Unfortunately, blocking your account had the side effect that the two PMs I received from your were deleted.

I agree this appears to be a technical problem. I will forward this to IMDb technical support for review.

Note: I am another user, not an IMDb staff member.

Well thanks for the help.  Hopefully IMDB techs will figure it out eventually.

Yeah I assumed you weren't one of their staff members.  I know that some folks help out a lot on forums they frequent a lot.  Much appreciated.

I was unable to replicate this problem on my end, but I have reached out to our technical staff to take a look.  As soon as I hear any updates on the status of this problem I will post the information here.

Michelle,

Johannes Wigand asked me to send a PM to the same user. I get the same error message as he does. I saw no problem is in Preview, but get the error message when I click the Send button. I provided image captures of the Preview and Send below.

I have not seen this problem previously and I send a lot of PMs.

I noticed that the recipient has no message board history when I looked at his/her profile page. The user only has two reviews.

I will provide the profile page separately.

Michelle, I definitely should have tried that earlier.  Checking to see if my sending of messages wasn't working was kind of lazy.  I should have suggested we try sending to the specific user but I guess I was trying to protect them since they aren't here.  Seemed a bit of an invasion of privacy but I guess I really want to ask them about their review of something.

You may wish to ask the IMDb technical staff what would happen if someone tries to send a PM to an IMDb account that has not been authenticated.

I posted the link to my profile page. I believe Michelle also wanted a link to your profile page. I could have provided it to her, but I respect your privacy.

Likewise, I believe that the technical staff needs a link to the profile page of the recipient. I've already provided this to Michelle privately, but I will send it to her again just in case.

(including how you're choosing who to send a message to)

1)  click the name of the person I am trying to send (from their review of something)
2)  From their personal page, I click "Send message." 
3)  Type message into the subject line & body.
4)  Click send

And this time when I did it, it worked.  Something changed? 
I have tried it with it automatically filling the subject line (because of previous errors) but tried it with me just typing it in.  I have tried it with copying & pasting the body text in or typing it all in again.  It always failed regardless of what I did.  Tech support fixed something?

From the profile page:
1. Clicked Send message.
2. Entered subject and message.
3. Clicked Preview button. This worked fine.
4. Clicked Send button. I received the message:
Message Posted

Your message has been sent. Until the recipient deletes it, you can see it in your Outbox.

I sent the same message as the one show above.
Subject: Test Message: Reported Problem on IMDb's Get Satisfaction Site

Body of message:
I am one of IMDb's Get Satisfaction Champions.

Another user report on IMDb's Get Satisfaction that the tried to send you a Private Message (PM), but received an error message instead. If you receive this PM, please respond.

Thank you in advance for your consideration.

I checked the outbox and the message shows up in the outbox.

It appears this was a transient problem or the IMDb technical staff corrected the problem. I'm hoping that the IMDb technical staff corrected the problem, since problems that go away by themselves usually resurface at inconvenient times.
