Unknown British movie title from early 1960's

Could somebody please help me to identify a British movie made in the early 1960's, I saw it on tv about 30 years ago, but have been unable to find the title of this movie, details as follows: Black and White film made around 1958 - 1965, my memory is that the lead actor was Stanley Baker who's character has just left his job as a merchant seaman and is looking for work on land in the UK, he also has had some experience as an amateur boxer, he applies at a big industrial factory for a job and as he is leaving the factory a heavy metal gate closes on his hand, that is about all that I can remember, hope someone can recognise the plot to this movie and can give me the title of this film.

Alan: I recommend asking on IMDb's "I Need to Know" message board at http://www.imdb.com/board/bd0000001/threads/ instead. A lot of people read that board and you are more likely to get a correct response there.
