Early next week (on or around June 24th) we will be introducing some small improvements to the way user ratings are calculated and displayed on titles.

Although the vast majority of titles will be unaffected, the rating on some films (especially those that have received a relatively low number of votes) might change, even if the total number of votes cast does not.

As always, we look forward to your constructive feedback.

Giancarlo, if you keep the current setup you should update the documentation of the weighted average, notably the assertions that "the same formula is applied universally across the database to all movies without exception."

pbn, I agree that the IMDb technical staff should carefully examine the documentation you referenced and update it to reflect the current scheme they have implemented.

It is still possible that "the same formula is applied universally across the database to all movies without exception." One possibility is to adjust the percent of rejected votes as a function of number of votes.

Hey I'm trying to figure out why since your new system went up I've gone down 8 weeks from the 1450 area to 251,000 I was sitting around 15,000 to 25,000 but now you've done this BS I've gone down even though my films keep going up. Your people at IMDB say oh its working ok. 8 Weeks I don't think anyone has ever gone down 8 weeks how about getting mine fixed your costing me a lot of money. I'm starting to think you don't want my money any longer so I'm thinking of not paying for this lousy service any longer.
