Every linked date on the page goes to the same incorrect page. Looks like something needs some TLC.

Yes, sorry (data is available on Box Office Mojo).  We have just completed the redirection work now so the calendar is no more.

What IMDb would benefit from this change?

Which page are you referencing here?  We should be steering people to http://www.boxofficemojo.com/ (which is a subsidiary of IMDb) for box office information beyond the current week so in theory there should not be any archive links on IMDb.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled IMDB box office history not available anymore?.

Hi
Isnt the box office history not available on IMDB anymore?
For example, i used to check the box office ratings and releases from the history on weekly basis, dated a couple of months back.
For eg, earlier the link below used to open
http://www.imdb.com/chart/?date=2015-07-03&region=us
or
http://www.imdb.com/boxoffice/calendar
now, whichever date is selected, it opens the current box office releases.

This is hampering my long weekend plans of chilling out. Kindly assist.
Br
Longtime user.

As I find it extremely useful, I have the calendar page bookmarked (probably like the_guy_db). If the service 'has' been retired, why's the calendar page still there?
I'd already resorted to using boxofficemojo, but unfortunately I then have to go back to imdb to check each  film out that I might be interested in so I can add it to my watchlist, etc.
Is there a reason this useful feature has been retired?

Hi again
Thanks for the comment. Yes, it works OK via boxofficemojo .. However, the interfacing is a bit backward. For starters, i dont see any option to go to imdb's movie trailer and description on clicking the Movie title link, as it was in the previous direct imdb archive link.

i agree. Personally, i prefer the previous setup .. all from imdb itself - to see the movie releases date-wise/week-wise, see the synopsis etc. Currently, it involves opening box office mojo to see the movie releases datewise/weekwise and then opening imdb on another tab, to see the synopsis and trailer of the movie (manually) !

Perhaps Col Needham could let us know the reasoning behind this extremely unhelpful change?

If I'm not mistaken I believe the information was always being pulled from another service like Boxofficemojo anyway, this wasn't info that IMDB is compiling themselves.

It may either be that maintaining the feed service of copying from one site to the other is not worth the hassle, or maybe boxofficemojo decided it wanted the traffic for itself and doesn't want it's statistics reposted and now wants redirects to their site instead of data sharing.

I am just speculating.

Vincent is (mostly) correct, there is a much more complete archive over at Box Office Mojo (which has been owned and operated by IMDb since 2008).  For example, weeklies at http://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekly/ back to 1982.

I wouldn't have a problem using Box Office Mojo if there was a link from each film back to IMDb, that way you could easily see all the details you want to & add them to your watch list etc. Currently we have to manually cut'n'paste each film title we want to check out.
As Box Office Mojo has been owned and operated by IMDb since 2008, I'm sure this wouldn't be too hard a feature to organise. Is there any particular reason this won't be implemented??

Well, it's well over a year now. How long do we need to stay tuned?
