The markup code for old boards/profile isn't completely compatible with the remaining profile page.  This problem has existed for many years and I have not discussed it with anyone since 2013 when Muzzle* was working on the message board code.  I have pasted the User Description Markup file into my own profile to show the tags that are not compatible.

*Muzzle was in my destroyed friend's list.  The decision not to preserve it was overkill, IMO.

Hi DrakeStraw,

I reviewed your profile and found that some of the codes you provided weren't pasted correctly. For example, the code for an email link: <br><br>
 [email]nobody@imdb.com[/email]
<br>was pasted without the third square bracket:
 [email]nobody@imdb.com/email]

This was true also for the white text code and I noticed a greater discrepancy in the code for black text.

Could you let us know which of the markup codes you believe is not functioning correctly?

Actually, the [email] tag was pasted correctly, but was not interpreted correctly by the incompatible profile page. That's also true of the [white] and [black] tags.  The tags that don't work should be self evident.  Since the [link] tags for events and users are not compatible, they should either be fixed or removed from the help file!  [pre] has never worked on the profile page since I've been using it.  So it appears that these are the only tags that are not fully compatible:

[email]
[white]
[black]
[link]
[pre]

Yes, there is also an incompatible [white] emoticon.  That had been brought up years ago and never fixed.

The bad [email] tag just needs a documentation change. I found out that the [url] tag handles a mailto: correctly:
[url]mailto:nobody@imdb.com[/url]

I've added some suggested fixes at the top or my profile page:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fixes for bad code in documentation below:

Emoticon [white] was changed to [white2] (I remember the discussion!)

EMAIL tag
mailto:nobody@imdb.com
[url]mailto:nobody@imdb.com[/url]

LINK tag to user (not a good fix, but it gets you there):
[link]... User Link: ../ur1000000 URL link: Col Needham
[link]... User Link: [link=../ur1000000] URL link: Col Needham

LINK tag to event: appears to be obsolete.

--------------------------------------------------------

If I think of anything else, I'll put it in this section of my profile.

Nothing has happened, but nothing happened for many years.  Without the message boards it was based on, it's probably not worth fixing the code behind the incompatible profile page.  The documentation should be fixed however, because what doesn't work can simply be removed or changed without much effort.

Hi Drake,

I have some updates for you regarding the markup codes:

For [email]: you should use [url]mailto:myemail@imdb.com[/url]
For [white]& [black]: as default background is white and default text is black,so these are no longer useful
For [link]: your fix is the correct one
For [pre]: unfortunately is not functioning
For the [white] emoji: it should be [white2]

Unfortunately we do not have any additional fixes planned at this point, but your concerns have been escalated and recorded for future updates. Thank you for your understanding!

Thanks for getting back Steve.  I really don't expect any code fixes since this was all taken from the old boards code.  What I do expect is that someone will correct the misleading documentation to reflect what actually works!
