2 days, and nobody bothered to answer me ?? So, I'll post my question again :

About not publishing the editing of my review, I did go to "status of your contribution" page. And I was shocked. Not because my editing was rejected. But because the reason, it says :

Your contribution has been declined. We did not capture a specific reason during processing !!!!
Now can somebody tell what's the MEANING of that ???

Before the last modifications, the site used to give me a reason like "You did edit this review a lot, and you have no more chances for doing that again", something like that. But "We did not capture a specific reason during processing" is just rude and dumb ! Simply I made my Batman Forever review shorter, moreover I changed my point of view about some elements. In short, there is more than one reason for editing that review. So why does that page tell me that nonsense ??

I hope someone in the IMDb staff translate this phrase for me !

And whatever its meaning is, can I delete my review, and post the edited one ?

P.S : I believe IMDb nowadays tries diligently to find new ways to drive us out of it, and I just can't understand the reason why.

Hi Elshikh,
a bit of a pity nobody from imdb is responding.

I am not a native English speaker, so I cannot help you here why it was rejected, but it sounds like no specific reason was stated.Unless you really want to keep the number of upvotes and downvotes or original review date, my suggestion would be to delete the old review and post it again. If it gets rejected again, perhaps you'll get a different reason or you can just post the review here and maybe somebody from the community can help you with the exact reason in terms of how the review is possibly not in accordance with the terms and conditions.

Thank you very much dear.
Big part of the problem is - as you said - that nobody from the IMDb's staff responded.
The IMDb isn't the site I loved anymore.
Since 1999, IMDb was a respectable and lovable part of my life. Now, it's respectable only.
Aside from the editing problem, every review in my pages used to have an independent link, so I could send it to whoever writing a study about some director, some cinema, whatever. Now can someone tell me why that was canceled ?? I thought about it deeply, and couldn't understand the reason why. Inviting someone these days, to read a review by you on IMDb, became very hard thing to do. Because it would take a lot of time to locate your own review on the site.
I'm shocked, and IMDb just gets weirder as the days go by.
Hope that anybody from the IMDb respond. Because lately I began to feel like Tom Hanks in Cast Away!

Guys, I have a real problem here..

Lately I knew that editing any of my old reviews would take less than a week to be done. However, I edited my review about Batman Forever (1995) nearly 10 days ago, and nothing happened at all. I visited the reviews section; whether in the movie's page, or my own page, to find out that none of my editing was published !

Can somebody tell what's the problem here, and how to fix it please ?!

Hi Elshikh,

Apologies for the lack of response, have you got the submission reference and I'll be happy to take a look?

Finally, someone up there concerned. Thank god !

Hello, Mr. Will.

Lately I tried to re-edit my review, for a second time, making it more short, and I think the "submission reference" you mean is that (#180318-164226-004804). It's still "pending". Though I'm trying to understand a lot of things here :

1) For god's sake, why the "Your contribution has been declined. We did not capture a specific reason during processing" ?! It's provoking, because it's really me to decide that. Sometimes, in my published reviews, I discover a name that's written wrongly, sometimes I need to re-evaluate some elements based on second or third viewing, sometimes I want to get more harsh or even more soft about some performance or whatever. So how come that the new system rejects that ??

2) If my edited review is rejected, can I delete the original one and publish the new one ? According to the old system, that was possible since the "editing permissible times" weren't exceeded yet, so how about that in the new system ?!

3) Does the new system allow a private link for every review of mine ? And if it doesn't.. why is that ??

Thanks in advance.

Hi Elshikh4,

That review is still pending awaiting review by our staff.

1) Without a submission reference I cannot answer that question. It is possible that if you have made multiple edits to the same review in a short space of time without that change being reflected then it is possible that we cannot apply one of your changes as it no longer matches the original if it has already been edited, that or your review breaches the guidelines for reviews on IMDb.

2) No please carry on and make an edit to the live review as opposed to submitting a delete on the original one and submitting a new review. If you are submitting lots of changes to the text within a short space of time please be patient, wait for the first change to be approved in your submission history before trying to make any further edits as we won't be able to apply all of your changes. Once the edited version has been accepted and is live on the site then you are welcome to submit a further change which our data editors will be able to approve.

3) Including a URL in your review is a direct breach of our policies which likely explains why your submissions have been rejected. Please see here.

What not to include: IMDb is pleased to provide this forum for you to air your opinions on your favorite (or not-so-favorite) movies and TV-series. While we appreciate your time and reviews, we respectfully request that you refrain from including the following in your review:

  • Phone numbers, mail addresses, URLs, email addresses, links to Twitter or Facebook pages etc.

Any review in violation of these guidelines will not be posted or may be edited to conform to the guidelines. In addition, IMDb reserves the right not to post any review for any reason.

I hope this helps.

Regards,
Will

Hello Mr. Will.

Thank you a lot. However my question number 3 was totally misunderstood. I write on IMDb since 10 years now, having 1203 reviews written by me so far (I'm a Prolific Reviewer already). So I'm so aware of not including a URL in any of my reviews (I didn't do that before, or think of doing it at all). Simply I was asking about my review itself, as a whole, as having a URL of its own on the site.

Till the end of 2017, IMDb used to have that; so any review I write on the site was found in 1) The movie's page, 2) My own reviews' pages, and 3) An independent URL that I had from my own pages which enabled me to open my review in a new page. In short, I used to sort my reviews, under whatever sorting, then open any of my reviews, by pressing "open new window" on its title, to read it fully in a new page that had nothing but my words, and links to its movie's pages on the left (I even used to do that in the reviews' page of any movie, if I wanted to read one of the reviews separately).

I was talking about that. According to the new system, it is no place to be found. Hence sending a link for a specific review of mine, via e-mail or else, became impossible. So am I wrong, and this is still present, yet I'm not seeing it ? Or did the site cancel it ?, and if it was canceled.. why was that ??

Thank you for clarifying, unfortunately this is no longer supported as part of the move to centralise the user review experience across our different platforms.

Thank you for understanding.

Will

Only 1 thing to add, I think of it more like : "The move to --bury-- the user review experience across our different platforms".

Thanks.

Now, a very strange thing just happened !

I went to delete my review of Batman Forever. I received an Email that told me to wait until the IMDb agree on that (it used to be done in a second before!). Anyway, after 1 day, the site deleted the review. And since I did that for posting my new edited one (with all the shorting, and different points of view, that the editing section didn't admit at all)--I posted the new edited one, and the site approved it. The scary thing though was that I found in the movie's reviews my new one ALONG WITH my old one !! How is that for god's sake ?! Is it only a temporary glitch ? I need only the recent one to be published, not that one along with the old one as well !

Here's a screen shot of both of them.. it's a bit Shining-ish I must say !

Hi Elshikh4 -

Can you confirm which of the above referenced reviews for "Batman Forever" you want removed (the 2009 review or the 2018 review)?

Hi Michelle. Of course I want the 2009 review to be removed, and the 2018 review to stay, I even said that in my previous comment : "I need only the recent one to be published". Originally, I posted that recent one since the site rejected editing my old one.

However, how that did happen in the first place ? And is it going to happen again in terms of deleting any other review of mine ? If the site passes through a development phase these days, which may allow glitches of that kind, please tell me, to return to it afterwards; when things are normal again.

Thanks :)

Hi Elshikh4,

The 2009 review has now been removed, please allow up to 48 hours for all updates to be visible on all platforms of the website. As Will previously stated, it is not advised to delete a review and add a new one for the same title, instead a correction to your existing review should be submitted which will prevent any future cases where this may occur again.

Thanks
Meredith

Hi, Meredith. Thank you. But I have to admit, I wouldn't delete my review, and replace it with another, if the site allowed my editing for that old one in the first place.

During 11 years as a reviewer on IMDb, it happened that I discovered a word I wrote wrongly in one review, or felt the need to change a certain point of view in another, and the site just allowed that peacefully. However, after the site's recent modifications, it became very hard, and for no reason.

In terms of the Batman Forever review, after 9 years of writing it, I felt the need to make another more accurate, less long, version of it. But the site surprisingly didn't approve, simply because "We did not capture a specific reason during processing" ??!! So I did what I did.

Therefore please modify this itself, bring back its good old system, do anything to make "editing" possible again. Otherwise that is my (our) only way to react.

And concerning the matter of having 2 reviews by me about 1 movie, I'm still asking : If the site passes through a development phase these days, which may allow glitches of that kind, when will things be normal again ?

Hey,

Thanks for your response and feedback.

Please see the guide here which should provide further clarity on how to submit updates to your existing reviews since this new implementation.

Remember, you will need to wait for our editors to vet your review correction before any  changes will go live - this may take a few days process.

Of course, if you experience technical issues (errors on the form) with this, please expand on these and we can investigate them further for you.

Thanks Joel.

I have only 1 question to ask : I tried to delete a review of mine since maybe 4 days ago, and it's still "pending" !! Deleting a review used to be done immediately. So why it takes that long now (it's just deleting !). And can IMDb now refuse to delete a review I don't want anymore ?!

Thanks Joel.

But another strange thing happened. I tried to delete a review of mine, about There's No Business Like Show Business (1954), and although the site took 4 days to approve the deletion, that's not the issue here. The issue is that after the site approved the deletion, I found the review on my reviews' pages, and the movie's reviews' pages !!

Here's the approving of the deletion, and the review that isn't deleted yet !

Hi Elshikh4 -

Concerning your first question, if you submitted the review you are requesting the removal of, we will accept the request.  If you requested a deletion and it still hasn't been removed, it's possible that the report is still pending.  If you would like our staff to take a look at this particular review, please clarify the title associated with the review.

Second, concerning your review for "There's No Business Like Show Business", our records show that this review is still active and has not been removed.  If you no longer want this review posted, please submit a deletion report again and our editors will take another look.

Hi Michelle, I really like your optimistic smile, and wanted to cheer up indeed, however, the review is still there :(

After 19 hours of your comment, my review is still pending, and it's present in the reviews' page of the movie, as well as my reviews' page !

Here's 2 pics to assure the case..

Hi Elshik4 -

There may have been a technical glitch preventing your report from being processed,  I have now manually removed the review for "There's No Business Like Show Business", can you check again now to confirm that it has been removed?

Hi Michelle, I checked, and it's finally deleted :) Thanks a lot :) :)

However, when I returned to the "Contribution" page, I found that my request for deleting the same review was declined (as it's shown in the pic) ?! Well, it's clear that the "There's No Business Like Show Business" review isn't on the site anymore, and the whole thing was caused by a a technical glitch, but - at any rate - can the IMDb really reject my request to delete any review of mine ?

It is dependent on the way we accept the delete. As previously explained if you wish to review a title please do so once, if you wish to make any edits to that review please submit a correction to the existing one as opposed to adding a new review and deleting the old review.

Regards,
Will
