It's happened for Nymphomaniac Volume II too, where their reviews are in some cases copy and pastes of what they wrote for Volume I. The same accounts or shall we say the same person(I am certain that this is the work of the same person or a small group using 20+ sock puppet accounts) have done the same thing with the Baby Geniuses movies, same ratings and similar style of writing to each other. And it is saddening to see such useless reviews getting excessively up-voted in such a short space of time while those who put time and thought with legitimate reasons into theirs get the opposite treatment(it's the same with A Fox's Tale and Titanic:The Animated Movie with the useful votes except the spamming is nowhere near as bad).
My Superbabies Baby Geniuses 2 review for four years was one of my most useful reviews now in a matter of three weeks it's now my least useful. Whoever's responsible clearly hasn't seen the films in question(some of the reviews can't even get the genre of the film right and none give reasons for what they've rated the film in question so low or high) and what they are doing- spamming- is a severe violation of the IMDb guidelines(it is the worst case of spamming reviews I've seen on IMDb). As much as it sounds nit-picky, I don't have a problem with anybody who expresses a different opinion(though I've not yet seen the Nymphomaniac films) but I do when they say nothing of use, when they spam in this way and when they severely abuse the useful votes system.
I thought IMDb took this kind of thing seriously, but despite very persistent and persuasive reports from Thorkell August Ottarsson and me(two actually) still seem to be oblivious to this and it is getting really out of control now. A lot of people have noticed this problem, it's literally caused an outrage on the Nymphomaniac board, and are desperate to it to be sorted out and in the most serious way possible, going as far to ask how to report it. I've said to them that seeing as there's no report account option(why?) and it'd take a long time to report all the reviews in question, I think IMDb have a thing about excessive reporting, that the best thing for them to do is to report it on GetSatisfaction like you, Thorkell August Ottarsson and I have done.
IMDb will have no choice but to act if they're persisted. Oh and if you want in my next reply I can provide the links to the accounts responsible(took me and Thorkell August Ottarsson a fair bit of homework to get the info though) to make it easier for IMDb when and if they sort this out. It'd be an eyesore to try and fit it in this post seeing as we're talking about nearly 30 accounts here, oh dear somebody must have been desperate. Thank you for this report, it's good to know that somebody else feels strongly about what is happening. When I submitted my first report you see I was worried that I'd come across as too accusatory and nit-picky but it has been a relief that others have felt the same and want something done asap. Sorry about the long reply, it's one of those things where it is easy to write a lot about.
Here are the links to the accounts- not entirely sure if you're aware of all of them- as I promised (I warned you it'd be a lot):
http://www.imdb.com/user/ur44106558/(either of these two are probably the original accounts)
(I know that this is not very helpful for you and not what you expected), I just wanted to let you know how much I agree with you and that you're not alone. No matter how long it takes I am determined, many others too, to get this dealt with)
Can you please provide a bit more clarity on your allegations, so we can investigate? I'm not 100% sure on what you are saying is going on here.
Is this a case of alleged 'useful/not useful' rigging or are you saying that the reviews for Nymphomaniac Part 2 are wrong or...?
Please explain and we'll look into it.
It looks like the same person (or a small group) is posting one star reveiws on Nymphomaniac. Most of these accounts were created in the last months/weeks and they have the following in common:
Almost all have only posted review(s) on Nymphomaniac.
Almost all love the same films (Baby Geniuses and the following films are all a 10/10).
Almost all hate films with sex in them, like Shortbus and for some reason The Big Lebowski. These get 1/10.
Almost all the reviews on Nymphomaniac are of same nature, use much of the same phrases and have the same mistakes in them.
Many of the user names sound the same, and names of the accounts created on the same day are often related. Examples of names that are alike: PrettyAmericangirl, cutegirl1730, PrettyYoungLady, Dansklady, Goodandtruthfulgirl, handsome107
There is some Jewish connection in some of them, either in films liked or names (not that it is a bad thing, just something they have in common).
Many of the reviews are shocked that Uma Thurman is in the film and talk about her as the only good thing in the film.
Some of them talk about the film as being a documentary.

I wonder if this here might behind it: http://www.imdb.com/user/ur24477856/ since he likes the same films as many of the other ones (Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2 gets 10/10 and a glowing review).
Or this: http://www.imdb.com/user/ur44106558/
Those two might even be owned by the same person.
All those 1 star reviews have a lot of "useful rating" favorable reviews have a very negative rating while the film actually gets 7.6/10 on IMDb.
What can be done?
Yeah sorry Giancarlo, I got so carried away and over-passionate that I, looking back over what I said, said things that didn't help, weren't clear at all(a general thing with me actually) or didn't add very much. There's very little to add to what Thorkell August Ottarsson's already said, basically that we were(judging from the writing style, same ratings and fishy amount of "did you find this review useful" votes in a very short amount of time) sure that a lot of the reviews for Nymphomaniac and a few other films- they've rigged the user reviews system for all three Baby Geniuses films as well, I think that needs looking at as well- were written by the same person(or as said a small group) using sock accounts. I was just feeling very frustrated that reviews of such useless quality was being rated so highly as well as also having a less-than-easy time at uni with exams.
And I clearly just rambled on with no clarity, sorry about that. I know that's quite a big accusation to make and does come across as ignorant, but the evidence to suggest so was in our minds quite strong. I haven't seen any of the Nymphomaniac films yet so it wasn't a case of saying this person is wrong(though I can understand why it was asked as a lot of people have been known to do it). Thank you for taking time to sort this out, it's already looking much less of a mess. I've just woken up and saw your message so thought I'd make myself clearer as you rightly asked. Thank you again.
Now that some of the accounts(reviews as well?) have been deleted, it is so much better than it was, and many thanks and well done to IMDb for doing what they could with it so quickly(assuming that's been the case). It's still a problem though, because whoever's responsible has not given up and it looks like(apologies if this is incorrect but it is looking likely) they've done another account(maybe more) and in a very similar way as The Nymphomaniac films are not as badly affected but the reviews for all three Baby Geniuses films are still being rigged and in an even shorter space of time than the last time. IMDb have done a very good job though, and this message is just to let them be aware of this.
Sorry to bump this thread after all this time but as an update unfortunately this review/useful-vote rigging/spamming is still going on, and is, as of since July/August, actually even worse than the last time. Last time it was very bad, this time it's bordering on ridiculous. I reported it a week ago and it's not been acknowledged yet. Something really needs to be done about it and more seriously this time(much more than terminating a few accounts and deleting a few reviews), because it does in my opinion violate IMDb's terms and conditions and it is incredibly misleading for people who use ratings and reviews here to, as has been said previously, influence their film choice. Here are the links to the films where the problem is particularly bad:
Nymphomaniac: Vol I: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1937390/reviews
Nymphomaniac: Vol II: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2382009/reviews
Titanic: The Animated Movie: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0330994/reviews
Legend of the Titanic: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1623780/reviews
A Fox's Tale: www.imdb.com/title/tt0830861
Baby Geniuses: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118665/reviews
Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0270846/reviews
Baby Geniuses Squad Investigators: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2150163/reviews
Baby Geniuses and the Treasures of Egypt: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2287238/reviews
(it's not necessary to list the accounts, it's obvious enough looking at the links to the review pages and it's personally easier this way to list the films that are suffering from it worst)
I can't be too sure but I think this is the account that the problem originated from:
Also here's a copy and paste of the report that I made a week ago:
Early this year(around February and March) we had a very bad problem with one person or a very small group of people using multiple accounts rigging reviews and the "do you find this review helpful" system, excessively up-voting their reviews and every other review with their opinion and down-voting those with the opposite opinion in a very short space of time. Often within as much as within at maximum two days of one another. A month later after it was reported some of the reviews were eventually deleted and some accounts terminated. However, shortly afterwards it started again and now since around July/August it's even worse than the last time.
The problem is not only with their reviews being up-voted as much as they are when they are actually useless but also because it is an obvious case of spamming. What brought me and many others to come to the conclusion that this was one person or a small group of people doing it is the short amount of time these accounts were made, a lot of them having pictures of mostly models for their avatars, a lot of the accounts having the same ratings for the same films like Nymphomaniac a 1 and Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2 a 10, a very similar writing style in the review (hyperbole, accusing people of being bigots in a few cases and several mistakes that show they didn't even see the film, and some of them are only plot summaries) and a very similar format to the usernames."
Thanks in advance and sorry again for the bumping.
