I admit that I do use IMDB when necessary, but the quality of the information is often very poor, and the user-submitted reviews are just awful.

This shows up in the "ideas" section but it sounds like a complaint.
Do you have an idea or suggestion as to how to address the issue that you see as a problem?

Good point. Okay, here goes:
1) Make it easy to report inaccurate information without actually editing it.
2) Add ratings to user-submitted reviews, making it easy to ignore poorly-rated ones.

I would also suggest having a feature to 'lock' (like Wikipedia) reviews for certain movies. The current best example is Gunday (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2574698/reviews). 92 pages that appear mostly to say the same thing - this movie offends historical/political sensibilities.

I am unsure if these reviews are real or bots though it seems bot-submitted reviews would be unlikely given the level of interaction required to set up IMDb/Facebook/Google/etc accounts.

Another idea might take the form of word pattern analysis. If a review is very similar to another review, the user could be shown a screen "Your review is substantially like other reviews." They could revise and resubmit or abandon. Better yet, a 'me too' feature or like button could help.

Granted, the "Was the above review useful to you?" feature may function in that manner, but that seems different to me than 'me too.'
