I am looking tocreate a game that involves linking actors/actresses together through different movies. I wanted to be able to use IMDb as a reference in the
way that a dictionary is used in Scrabble when there is a dispute on a word
I know on the FAQ it said IMDb encourages linking to their site from
another website, but is this acceptable as well in print form? For
instance, could we put something to the extent of "If there is any dispute
on which movie(s) an actor/actress was in, please refer to the The Internet
Movie Database at www.imdb.com" . Thanks for all your help.

I'd have thought they'd encourage that kind of thing, as long as:

a) You aren't using their data (which it seems you aren't), and

b) You follow the linking guidelines:

Oh and one word of caution: Not every item of data should be considered as reliable as a dictionary, for example, so it might be a little dangerous using it to solve such arguments. That said, it is probably better than just about anything else you could find.

Phillip Jacobs,

Out of curiosity, how is this different than the parlor game "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon"?

You may also wish to check out "The Oracle of Bacon" which makes use of IMDb data. "The Oracle of Bacon" allows the user to find the minimum path between two actors.

To amplify what Emperor wrote, Wikipedia does not consider the IMDb a reliable source for cast listings since the IMDb does not provide the source of its information.
