Video links - official vs unofficial (e.g. Music videos)

In the guide for music videos* (and probably related to other ”video links”), it says:

”A link should be submitted in the Video Clips section under Links to Other Sites with the description: WebsiteName - Full video.”

This is great, but as most of us know, many links in Youtube (and similar sites like Vimeo etc) are pretty much unoffical, a ”grey area” so to speak. Then some are from the official sources like the record/production company, the official channel/site of the artist/band, the official site of the director, etc.

The question is, that what are the rules when adding Youtube music videos (to ”Links to Other Sites =>Video Clips”)?

1) Only Youtube links from the ”official” channels/sources are accepted. No ”unofficial” links, even when they’re the only place where the video can be found online.

2) IMDb prefers ”official” Youtube links, but in cases where none are available, the ”unofficial” links are also accepted.

I have to add that I’m not personally against any links per se, but usually I don’t add any ”unofficial” video links to IMDb myself (I could use them as a ”proof”, though, but I don’t add any permanent links), especially for movies and TV series that have certain copyright related issues. Music videos are more like artist/band promotion (of course also art), but even they’re fully copyrighted and all that.
Thanks. ( *Source: )

EDIT: One additional clarification: Are the music videos always added as "Video (V)", even when some were originally shown on TV, or even in some film/music video festivals? The guide seems to say that "always Video", but it's good to be sure. Thanks.

Hi Eboy -

Links to official sites are more useful for sites like an individual or title's Facebook page, Twitter handle,  Instagram, website, etc.  When adding a link to a Music Video, you are correct, these should be submitted as Video Clips with the format:

WebsiteName - description (Language if not English)

For example: YouTube - full music video or Vimeo - full video

Additionally, for Music Video title listings on the site, these should always be submitted as a "Made for Video" (even if the music video was originally shown on television or at a festival).

I hope this helps clarify!
