Voice-over/voiceover/voice over

Currently in the attribute section of cast, there are 187 listings for the attribute (voice over), 1,080 for (voice-over) and 92 for (voiceover).
Apart from that of course, there is the attribute (voice). Shouldn't all voice-over attributes be merged into that attribute or does IMDb want to make/keep the distinction between (voice) and (voice-over)? If so, I think it should be mentioned in the guide (https://contribute.imdb.com/updates/guide/cast#voice) and (voice over) and (voiceover) should be merged with (voice-over). If not, (voice over), (voice-over) and (voiceover) should be merged into (voice).

Hi Marco -

These credits should all be listed with the attribute "voice".

I have now filed a ticket for our editorial team to clean-up the existing incorrect attributes you referenced, they will take a look as soon as they can.  Cheers!

Hi Marco,

I can confirm that a cleanup for these attributes has now been completed. I can also confirm that the guide clearly states that voice credits should be attributed with 'voice' https://help.imdb.com/article/contribution/filmography-credits/cast/GH3JZC7...

If you come across further items for cleanup please do let us know or simply submit a credit correction.

Thanks again for your patience and for bringing this to our attention

If you come across further items for cleanup please do let us know or simply submit a credit correction.
There are currently 14 listings for (voice over), 26 for (voice-over) and 3 for (voiceover). Since I haven't got the faintest idea on which titles to find them, can you fix this please?

Hi ACT_1 -

As mentioned in our Cast guide here, the term "actor" covers everyone whose image or voice appears in a recognized title. This includes narrators.

The role of Narrator is eligible to be listed as an Acting credit or as a Self credit depending on the context of the film.  For a good example of an acting credit, on "The Wonder Years" the narrator is a character verses an individual voice, even though Mr. Stern who plays that role is never seen on-screen.  When the narrator is simply an individual voice, as is in documentaries, the credit would be listed under the Self section, for example, see Morgan Freeman's narrator credits on "Through the Wormhole".

I hope this helps clarify the difference!

Hi Act_1 -

To clarify further, the "Self" narrator is mostly associated with documentaries where the narrator is just a voice, an "Acting" narrator is associated with Dramas/Comedies where the narrator is the voice of a character.  A good example to look at is the filmography of Morgan Freeman to see the differences between a self narrator and an acting narrator.

A good example of an "Acting" narrator  is Bob Saget's episode role on  "How I Met Your Mother" where he played the voice of "Old Ted".

So the placement of the credit is best determined based on the context of the title and the role itself.  There may be credit listings on the site that were submitted incorrectly, anytime you encounter these you are welcome to submit a correction for our staff to review.
