I would like that every movie in my watchlist had a "WATCHED" button, so I can keep track of movies I have watched.
Right now the only way to do that, is by having a different list, and moving movies from watchlist to that list, which is annoying and time consuming.
So the idea is to have a button next to "Remove from Watchlist" saying something like "Mark as Watched"

I keep a "MyMovies: Watched" list (I think as one of the presets on the early roll out of lists) and when I watch a film, I go to the film's page, remove the Watchlist listing and then I add it to my Watched list from there too (and to any of my other lists if they fit). Having an actual Watched button would only save seconds and might clutter up an area that now has a Share button too. Then again I wouldn't be bothered if it was introduced too, especially if it got a special name (liked the ratings and watchlist do), as IMDB could then offer it as part of an exclusion option (you could have a link that lets you filter someone's filmography by films I've watched to see what else I hadn't seen - something that can only be done through the advanced search).

Thank you for your reply!
Yes, if you enter each film individually and uncheck the watchlist and check it to some other list, it wouldn't make much difference, but what I'm saying is to have that possibility in your watchlist list, so when you hover a movie title, you can do that action right from there, intead having to enter each title to do that..
I have found it very annoying, since I usually watch more than 1 film untill I update my lists.
So the first thing I do is delete them from watchlist, and then I have to go again to the movie (using the search most of the times) and include it in some other list..
I'm attaching a screenshot to explain better
sorry for my english

I just open the film in another tab, remove it from the watchlist and add it to my watched list when I start, then rate it when I've finished.
That said a "watched" button wouldn't be too big a deal and may have other plus sides (that I mention in the previous comment).

Yeah, it's a really nice idea. It should have been done so far. Please add "Mark as watched" button in watchlist.

I want this to! It would make things a lot easier.
I can not understand why this is not done yet.

Staff consider the Checkin button to be a Watched button and won't be implementing this.

I think this is a great idea. Yes, one could move films from one list to another to keep track of films one wants to watch and has watched. But this should be a simple feature for IMDb to add. Then one can see the whole list of films one wants to see and films one has seen all at once.

Maybe WATCHED button, instead of watchlist!!

Personally, I would have it on the Watch List. Film pages are already complex enough. I'm for embedding it into the watch list.

Sorry, but I don't quite get it. Isn't the Watchlist a list for all the movies you have not watched yet but you plan to watch, as stated here?
And isn't your ratings history already a list of all the movies you have watched?
For this, I guess it would be more reasonable to have a movie removed from one's own Watchlist as soon as it gets voted.

To me: No. I have several titles I watched long ago, but I don't remember them well enough to give them a true rating. I would really like to mark these titles as "watched" but without a rating.

Not necessarily. Any watch list is created for whatever purpose the maker of the list chooses. It may be films he intends to watch or it may be films he has watched in the past. It may be films he recommends to others to watch or it may be films he recommends others avoid. It's entirely up to the individual.
I don't rate every film I watch. Some films I just can't make up my mind about how to vote. Some films I don't rate due to prejudices that I recognize in myself and feel I cannot give it an honest rating.

Of course each one of us can do whatever we want with our own Watchlist, but I guess the way I described is the way it is meant to be so I just wouldn't expect the IMDb staff to approve the OP.
After all you can always create a new list for the other purposes.
As far as concerns the "not rating" thing, I respect that (maybe IMDb could implement an "abstain from rating" kind of vote), but I think it's rather exeptional so, again, I wouldn't expect IMDb to do something about it.

you can just "unwatched" the movie and rank it, then you'll have the movies you have seen in your ranking, and the movies you havent in your watchlist.

Which is what I do, I also use the Checkin feature when I start watching a film (handy fo checking to see if I've watched a film and forgotten to rate it) and then added it to a Watched list I created - now the lists are being sored by last update, the Watched list now hovers close to the top of the drop down menu, so it is hardly a chore to do this.

I disagree with my younger me. I realize now that there are films I don't want to rate, but I want to know in the future that I watched it. So I think a watched button is a very good idea.

I don't really understand. If you rate the movie, it will automatically jump to 'Your Ratings', which basically = the movies I watched list, so it is the same.
But if you want to have a list including the movies you watched without you rating, them, then you need an extra button, which there is now :)

Well, if you've rated all the movies you've ever seen, that's fine.
But for me, I've seen so many movies I can remember only the name of it. I think, for the sake of the community, it is better to give me a "Watched" button rather than implying I should give these movies a fake rating.

Well, this button is actually not implemented. This is what this Idea/thread is all about, isn't it?

I just registered to suggest the creation a "watched button" and a "watched list". This is a must have for IMDb. I've seen thousands of movies and series along my life and I want to start checking everything I've seen so far. IMDb is the ideal place for this but this is like everything else, if I can't do it here I'll have to do it elsewhere.

I'd also love to see a "watched button" in this website.
As far as I know, if you rate a movie, you kind of do that. That movie moves out of your recommendations for example. But as stated before here, I don't rate every movie I see (for whatever reasons I may have).
