I was comparing MiketheWhistle's ratings with mine when I came across a very weird problem:
on the section Titles you rated lower
I saw this:  the problem isn't that his ratings a different than mine, it is that even in the Titles you rated lower, I have some titles rated higher than him, take for example,

Batman Forever: (Mike: 2) < (Me: 4)
Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer: (Mike : 4) < (Me: 5)
The Favourite: (Mike : 4) < (Me : 5)

How is it possible, in this section, there should only be titles that I rated lower than Mike.

Most likely because the comparison algorithm takes into account the overall tendencies of both your ratings.

I would bet that your ratings histogram (on your Activity page) has a mean and/or mode that is higher than Mike's:

For instance, mine looks like this:

IMDb employs an algorithm to try to align the distributions before comparing.

Somewhere here on GetSatisfaction is my post of the same question as yours some time back.
But the explanation is in the Help Center:
How does "Compared To You" feature work?

In trying to find a user named cinephile on IMDb (and found several), this one:

And the algorithm shows

the same weirdness as you're reporting: My 9 on Sound of Music is "higher" than cinephile-n's 10.
