WGA locked credits on I Can Only Imagine

The writing credits on I Can Only Imagine are locked but are incomplete (I think) and out of order.

I would think the credits should be:

Millard, Bart          (based on the life story of) 1,1,1
Erwin, Jon            (story by)                            2,1,1
McCorkle, Brent   (story by)                            2,1,2
Cramer, Alex        (story by)                            2,2,1
Erwin, Jon            (screenplay by)                  3,1,1
McCorkle, Brent   (screenplay by)                  3,1,2

I don't know if the "based" credit belongs but I've seen it on other movies/tv shows that are inspired or based on people's life story. The bigger problem is that the story and screenplay credits are out of order. It currently has the screenplay credits listed first followed by the story credits. I've include the timestamps with the screencaps so it is obvious that this order is incorrect.

Hello Adrian
There are quite a few titles where the WGA got it wrong and their credits differ from those writers shown on screen (or the people who actually wrote it). But the IMDb decided some time ago that they would always go with the WGA version of events, even when it's wrong.

They are indicated by the (WGA) in the Writers credits

Adrian,

Through the IMDb Help Desk, I've submitted several updates of locked credits with proof indicating that the order or the job title on the title pages were incorrect.

Considering that you've provided the stills here, I would hope that the credits will be updated.

The last time I ran into this, I just posted them here. If that doesn't work, I'll contact the help desk.

Is it possible that the WGA doesn't consider "based on the life story of" to be a writing credit? If so, then the only issue would be whether the screenplay credits should be listed before the story credits.

gromit82,

It would not surprise me but it's certainly possible.

At the same time, it doesn't explain why Bart Millard's name, while listed in the credits of the film, is not listed on the film's IMDb page. Hopefully, an IMDb representative will resolve this issue.
