Hi I have contributed a very small clip to a video produced by a awesome company called Blue Ocean Productions.  The video accompanied the Paramount Picture Sponge Bob Squarepants " A sponge out of water"  (2015)  A video titled Plankton Rules The World (2015)   It is listed on IMDB here https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5673826/companycredits?

Like I said earlier i contributed some footage i took myself and they very kindly added my credit at the end as: Additional Footage.  Just as you see in the next picture... Micheil Gerrie

My question is how or what category should i be listed.  I am not the cinematographer and i don't see another category to list myself other than maybe Cameraman.  But i didn't serve that role specifically for this production company.  End goal here is to have my own name listed in IMDB and perhaps do a profile page on myself but i want to get this right.  I have contacted the Original Production Company for their input also as that first link to the page does not have any comprehensive credits and has a lot of room for entries.  Just want to get this right before moving forward is all.

Thanks in advance for any input.

This is just a quick reply at this point, but if you shot/provided additional - original - footage yourself (so the credit refers to cinematography, where you are the actual cinematographer), then this credit should probably go to ”Camera Department”. Perhaps even: ”cinematographer: additional footage”.

It would probably help if you could explain a bit more about the footage and other names under ”additional footage”.

The footage is underwater sponge spawning,  happens once a year usually at night and i was lucky enough to get it on film during the daytime.  They only used i think like 5 seconds of my footage, in their 5 minute short video production,  so  i agree maybe the camera department but maybe to be safe I should do what GMJ suggests and put under the thanks section.   I'm not sure about the other names listed as i was not part of the project at all other than that small clip,  he does list other sources such as Pond5.  My name of course is Micheil Gerrie in the credits and he found the clip through my YouTube channel that started out basically as a travel video hobby but i hope to break into something else more lucrative.  Although it would be nice if i could credit my camera work specifically as a resume opportunity in the future rather than just a thanks .     Very happy just to be listed as i was never paid for this footage, just as agreed upon, and signed a release.  Real cool though especially since it was a Paramount Picture project and associated with one of my underwater heros Dr. Sylvia Earl!!!  After this I did start getting more interest in my YouTube channel and I am in the process of finding out if a few other paid clips are listed under IMDB.

gearbow, judging from your description that might also be contributed as "director: additional footage (uncredited)" in "Assistant Director and Second Unit Director" section of the credits.

gearbow,

In my opinion, in your case, I would submit the credit in the Thanks section, which is one of the categories listed under Cast and Crew. You've indicated that you are not the cinematographer for the footage so submitting the credit under Thanks would be sufficient.

When you get to the Thanks form, type the information this way.

Under Name, type the following.

Last Name, First Name

Under Occupation, type the following.

acknowledgment: additional footage

Leave the Attribute section blank.

Is this your first credit listed on IMDb? If it is, acknowledge the yellow warning message that a new name is being created by scrolling to the bottom of the name list and clicking the radio button to the left of the following statement.

This is a person not currently listed - create 'Last Name, First Name'.

Processing for the new name page may take 48-72 hours. Considering that you've posted the closing credits, the update may take a shorter amount of time

I hope this helps. Please write back if you have any more questions.

The footage itself was taken by me with camera in hand underwater at 60 feet and posted to my YouTube channel where the production company saw it as they were looking for footage that showed a coral sponge spawning as it is a rare event.  They contacted me after the fact for this small clip ( 5 secs) to be included in his production and I agreed as long as they would list me in the credits

Would be nice to use the IMDB credit as a resume reference for possibly future employment opportunity.   I did initially look at the cinematographer tab ( I sometimes tell people that is what i am on the dive boat or rather " Underwater Videographer"  but as there is currently no cinematographer listed in the credits  currently under this IMDB page and while in th edit page it said that at least the first name listed should  be the main cinematographer  then there was this in the cinematographer section that read:
"Only the person credited as the MAIN cinematographer or director of photography should be submitted here. Usually one person holds this role. Additional or second unit cinematographers, camera operators and other cinematography related roles should be submitted to the Camera Department section. Please list the role in the attribute field exactly as it appears on screen"......

That is why I assumed I should go to camera section, but being that this is solely my work that the producer wanted to use i was not sure exactly and not sure it should be in the thanks section either . The other fact that it is literally only like 4-5 seconds in a 6 minute production so i feel weird if i do a faux pas .    I'm not in the industry per say and don't know the ins and outs or the legal jargon when it comes to these sorts of things .  Does this help clarify I have other clips sold to production houses including to production companies for shark week and am hoping to get a resume together with links to IMDB credits and maybe turn what started as a hobby into a part time or full time gig.

GMJ advice is the best here now when I had more time evaluate the case. Certainly not the ”Cinematography” (note, that I was referring to ”Camera Department”, which is not the same as ”Cinematography”) nor ”director/assistant director” (you can’t make up such occupations for 5 sec footage).

gearbow,

Following up on one of your previous messages, you've indicated you did film the footage with your camera. In that case, Eboy is correct. The credit is eligible to be submitted in the Camera and Electrical Department instead of the Thanks section.

As previous suggested, type your name in the form in reverse order (Last Name, First Name). The name will appear on the web page as First Name Last Name.

In the Occupation section, type additional footage.
All titles and occupations are listed in lower case letters.

Credit information should be submitted to IMDb as shown in the title's opening and/or closing credits. In this case, your name is listed in the credits under Additional Footage.

The Attribute section can be left blank.

Please write back if you have any more questions.
