What is imdbs policy for "stolen" images from other sites? I can see that more and more images from our site nordicposters.com have been added to imdb. Example: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0030085/
We have our URL in the botttom left corner, so its easy to see its from our site.

Hi Mary B. -

If you are aware of images on IMDb that are copyrighted and/or contravenes the guidelines here, please use the ‘Report Image’ feature on the image to forward your report to IMDb staff for review.  If the report is valid and in violation of our guidelines, our editors will take the appropriate action.

That advice is kind of not-working for me. It would be up to me to find all images that someone steals from our site and report them? But it is not my job to scan through imdb. It is imdb that should check what is uploaded. Our images are especially easy to spot, the URL is written in the corner.

It took me 5 minutes to find these stolen poster images from nordicposters.com:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0049382/
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0045773/
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0064671/

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0034649/
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0057902/
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059326/
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0053233/
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0054704/
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0045272/

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0062694/
(note, the thief actually cut out our URL from the image on the last examples)

Judging from this there are probably 100s or even 1000s of poster images on imdb that we put money and effort into taking, and imdb is using for free. imdb is a commercial site. This is not fair. It is not even legal.

I suggest imdb writes out what user uploaded an image. Then anyone could see who the thief is, and all his images could be erased. It is probably one 1 or 2 individuals that is causing the problem.

I would appreciate if an imdb official contacted us through our site nordicposters.com to correct this, or here.

Here are more stolen images:  tt0023547 tt0023246 tt0024003 tt0024283 tt0026025 tt0025123 tt0027114 tt0026604 tt0027009 tt0026365 tt0028155 tt0028474 tt0028339 tt0027604 tt0029576 tt0030767 tt0028621 tt0030799

I now think there are at least 1000 posters images on imdb with www.nordicposters.com in the left corner. I would appreciate a comment.

Hi Mary B -

We take intellectual property issues very seriously and explicitly discourage submissions of copyrighted information.

If you are the copyright holder of an image posted on IMDb and believe that your work has been submitted to our site in a way that constitutes copyright infringement, please follow the instructions on our Notice and Procedure for Making Claims of Copyright Infringement at http://imdb.com/copyright_agent to request removal.

No, we don't have the copyright, these posters are older than 70 years and are free to use. But we put $10.000 into scanning them. They are marked with our url. And still imdb wants to use them for free?

Hence my question, still not answered. What is imdbs policy for images stolen from other sites?

Mary:

Based on the above description, the images you have identified seem to contravene our image upload guidelines, located at:
https://contribute.imdb.com/updates/guide/images

If that's the case, please use the 'Report' feature (click on the 'Report This' button located at the bottom of the image page) and follow the onscreen instructions to bring them to the attention of our editors. We will review and take appropriate action.

Thank you for your help.

Giancarlo,

Upthread, Mary said they think there are at least 1000 posters that go against the guidelines. Are you saying Mary should report over a 1000 posters via the 'Report' feature one by one?

Marco.

Aha, finally the answer:

"We do not allow the following:
  • Images displaying third-party ownership or branding, such as watermarks."
imdb should perhaps also add "images with watermarks clearly cut out".

Is there a log with who has uploaded an image? As Marco comments, I estimate there are 300-1000 poster images on imdb that come from us. Its impossible for me to find them all. Some imdb official should instead go find who uploaded the images that I have in my examples and from that investigate what more posters the same person has uploaded. There is no info on imdb.com who uploaded a image, so I cannot do it. Perhaps there should be.
