What is this Scifi movie? Similar to Shutter Island but more modern times. Main character travelling to future / memories to be with his wife(?) - only scene I clearly remember was the main character and the woman in a water taxi / ferry.
They also had some kind of a research center in an old mental hospital looking building by water, where they were studying this skill of time / memory travel...

Another possibility is The Time Traveler's Wife (2009) but AFAIK there is no mental institution etc. in that film.

Oh.. was the main character black? You may be thinking of Deja Vu (2006).
