Thought I'd post this here until I hear we're doing it somewhere else....

Post the name of the latest movie you've seen and your rating out of 10.

Sunshine Boys (t0073766) - 7/10 - loved Burns, hated Matthau.

Citizen Kane (re-watch for my film course): 10/10.

A second time around was such a more engaging watch... you tend to focus more on the cinematography and see Kane in such a different light than the first time. My first view - way back when - I didn't totally enjoy it but knew I was experiencing a masterpiece of filmmaking. This time around... could NOT take my eyes off the screen for a second. What a masterpiece in every way.

Oldboy: 9/10.

That has to be one of the twistiest (twistiest?) endings I have seen in a film in my life. The rest of the film was excellent but the second half was totally addictive.

School Ties - 7/10 - Matt Damon is very good at playing a bratty, entitled bigot.

Tristan + Isolde - 8/10 - never seen James Franco so understated. I liked it. But in the IMDb trivia section it says, "James Franco stated it was his most regrettable role." I wonder what he means by that...?

The Death of Stalin, 7/10

I did not laugh much, but it's a brutal satire.

Mother! (2017) , 4/10.
Mr. Aronofsky should have gotten a Razzie screenwriter nomination.  Jennifer Lawrence not necessarily deserved the Razzie lead actress nomination.

Tucker and Dale vs Evil (2010) , 8/10.  I would love to see more of Dale and Allie if not in a slasher/horror film but... maybe an alien abduction/horror comedy.

Lmao, however that's one of the most effectively descriptive and concise blurbs I've ever read. 'Seriously.

Some watches this week:

The Shape of Water
 (2017): 9/10
God, I hope this wins best picture... what a magical experience this was.

Plan 9 from Outer Space (1959): 4/10
The greatest comedy ever created! But seriously, more entertaining than it has any right to be. Definitely have an appreciation for it after seeing Ed Wood (1994).

Unfriended (2014): 6/10
Pretty cool concept, didn't love the execution. But inventive and entertaining.

Metropolis (1927): 7/10
Liked it... didn't love it though. I know it's a masterpiece but for me personally, sitting through an almost 3 hour long silent film is difficult. I think breaking it up into multiple viewings made me disengaged upon returning, which is too bad.

Get Him to the Greek (2010): 7/10
Hilarious at times and right in the feels at others... started off strong and then kind of slipped in the second half. Between this film and Forgetting Sarah Marshall, director Nicholas Stoller knows how to make a deeper-than-your-average comedy film with great characters.

Warrior (2011) 5.5/10

Ridiculous story line even for sports movie standards. Joel Edgerton makes it salvageable but I have no idea why it is in the top 250 movies. At no point was I emotionally invested in the characters even if the writers expected me to be in the first 10 minutes.

Game Night (2018) 8/10 Better than I expected with plenty of funny twists.

Mother! (2017) 6/10 I found the whole story concept interesting. The way they presented the allegory was just odd and cringy, especially as the story picks up in the second act. I will probably give this a second try as I have a better idea of what is going on in the house.
