I had never seen this movie before. It was not serious. You step on somebody's toe and then hit him with a sword? Come on, give me a break! Yes, I do think I prefer the Costner version.

Page One: Inside the New York Times - 7/10 - interesting but I think I would have gotten more out of it if I was more invested in the situation
Stage Door - 9/10 - handles comedy, dance and tragedy very well together

Despite not being a fan of the former, David Carr, I was surprisingly affected by the documentary. Wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did especially considering David Carr was the centerpiece and basic focus of the entire documentary.

I loved the part during the debate where he pulled out the printout of the website (can't remember which one) with all the articles from print media excised.

You know he's since passed, right? Not exactly related to this film of course, but I was shocked in the difference in his appearance from Minneapolis to the time of the film.

Missile X: The Neutron Bomb Incident (1979): An atrocity of a spy thriller. So deserving of its RiffTrax treatment. Movie rated at 2/10.

I've been especially been wanting to see The Big Sick. Kumail Nanjiani is one of my favorite comedians. I highly recommend his special/CD Beta Male. So fun.

Some of the cable-tv channels that I watch have started showing some old 80's stuff. One in particular is a 1984 film called "Tank", starring James Garner, Shirley Jones, C. Thomas Howell and G. D. Spradlin. Garner plays an career Army Sergeant Major who owns his own restored Sherman tank, and he uses it to rescue his teenage son (Howell), who was wrongfully put on a chain-gang at a Southern Georgia correctional facility by a vindictive Georgia County Sheriff(Spradlin), who had it in for the boy's father because he got into a barfight with one of the sheriff's deputies over a young prostitute and turned himself in to the Provol Marshal at the Army base where he was assigned to rather than let the sheriff arrest him and lock him up in his jail. The sheriff then had the boy arrested on a trumped-up possession charge, and then tried to get the father to cough up some dough to get his son out safe and sound, but the wife(Jones), upset over her husband's role in the situation, and refusing to believe in the kind of man that the sheriff was or to heeding the warnings that the sheriff made about bringing in legal aid, refused to cow to his blackmail ploy and threatened to get a lawyer to help her son. When that didn't work out, Garner took out his tank and leveled the jail, and then with the help of the young prostitute, he went and broke out his son from the labor camp, and they headed for the Tennessee state line, avoiding the roads and going through the woods and stuff, and they received some help from people who disliked the sheriff and who lost loved ones in the same camp that the son was in, and the father & son and the girl built up a fanbase as they drove along while a new helicopter followed them, and in the meantime the wife and mother was able to get the governor of Tennessee to intervene on their behalf once they cross the state line, and they were able to in spite of the sheriff and his deputized men's efforts to stop them, with just a little help from the people, who saw them not as criminals, but as folk-heroes. So this is just a simple case of what a father will go through for his nearest and dearest, and what others will do for that person.

Baby Driver (2017), 9/10. I'm hoping Edgar Wright gets at least $40 million for this one's opening weekend. He deserves a box office win.

Season 5 of Orange Is the New Black - 10/10 - HOLY CRAP!!!
Henry Rollins: Live at Luna Park - 8/10 - not his best; his recorded shows work better as complete recordings, not just clips from the show.
Bridge of Spies - 7/10 - meh. Some of the dialogue at the beginning had a major Mamet feel, which I liked, but that didn't last long. Maybe he doctored some of the early dialogue.

20th Century Women - 9/10 - the flip side of Mike Mills' other film, Beginners. This is about life with his mother, set in the past, whereas Beginners was about life with his dad in the present (or barely recent past). It's a story set in a very specific time (one that is rarely shown in movies) with very specific people - no stock characters here. I liked it very much. I almost would want to read a book about the same events written from the mother's perspective. Soundtrack was great, and I love the way Mills uses still images of the past to tell his story; you can really tell he is a graphic designer, and I mean that in the best possible way.
