Thought I'd post this here until I hear we're doing it somewhere else....

Post the name of the latest movie you've seen and your rating out of 10.

Hacksaw Ridge - I'm having a hard time rating this one. I guess, for now, I'd say 7/10.

Two amazing Andy Samberg and HBO sports mockumentaries.
Tour de Pharmacy (2017) (TV)
7 Days in Hell (2015) (TV)
Both absurdly hysterical.  Both 9/10.

I wasn't enamored of 7 Days in Hell. But I'd still like to see Tour...how was Jon Cena?

Detroit (2017) 7/10.  This is difficult to rate, at least for me, right now. I just saw it a few hours ago and it is powerful and affecting. I consider a rating of 7 to be a good movie and Detroit, indeed, is. The question is how good? After just viewing it, I could give it an 8, but, even feeling its considerable weight and immediacy, I think of a few choices the director made and the lack of moral complexity and I think it possibly only deserves a 6, which I still consider to be better than average. I want to see it again and perhaps, to rate it more effectively, I need to. Perhaps I also need to think about it more and give it time: generally, I try to wait at least a few days to rate a film but I so strongly recommend it that I wanted to respond more quickly. Why do I feel so compelled to quickly recommend a film with a probable rating of 7? First, as I said, a movie to which I give a 7 is a movie I consider to be good. Secondly, and more importantly even, it illustrates important and unfortunately still very topical events and issues: Where this film succeeds, it does so because it pulls the viewer all the way in and the resulting empathy is critical and necessary if human beings have any hope in being a kinder, less destructive species. The question that still remains, in my mind, about this film is whether it is done intelligently enough not only to inspire empathy for a few hours but to also deepen understanding of sociological phenomena enough to, in combination with sustained empathy, incite authentic moral self-inventory in its viewers.

American Crime (season two) 9/10

Yesterday afternoon: Atomic Blonde (2017), 9/10.
Today: SST: Death Flight (TV Movie 1977), a very early preComedy Central era episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000.   MR. Brady, a powerless Q from the Next Generation, Billy Crystal as an airplane stewardess?

Peter Graves ... Paul Whitley
Lorne Greene ... Marshall Cole
Burgess Meredith ... Willy Basset
Doug McClure?!

The movie? 1/10.

Today: Wind River (2017), 7/10.

Riding with Death (1976), 1/10, a two episode arc from "Gemini Man" (1976) smashed together into a terrible and unnecessary TV movie... of course tackled by Mystery Science Theater 3000 (1988) (TV Series).

"The Dark Tower" it is nowhere near any of the books. It is the old Hollywood technique of taking the best of the books and smashing them into a story that doesn't appear in any of them.

Broken - 8/10 - a small movie with really wonderful performances. Just sweetly sad.
