Why am I shown as only having been a member since 2000? I have been submitting to IMDb since the midst of my undergraduate days, probably 1998 or earlier (I started college in 1994 and was online by 1996 and have been submitting since the film title was centered at the top of the page).

Hi Scott, I have a similar situation. I've been involved with IMDb since the days when the database was a series of lists on the Usenet Group rec.arts.movies.

The original email I used to register no longer exists. I had the IMDb help desk convert that email to my current primary email around the time I authenticated my account, around the beginning of 2000.

When I recently asked the help desk about my account, they could not find any trace of my legacy email account.

I do not know whether there is anything the IMDb staff can do to help you, but it would be interesting to find out.

By the way, your name sounds vaguely familiar. Did you ever post on Usenet?

I believe the current registration system was implemented only in early 2000. It was possible to contribute to the site via email long before that, but that activity would not be linked to your account. The 'age' of the account is based on the actual registration date (i.e. when you created an account and logged in for the first time).

I just posted the same issue. My profile has reviews from 1998, so pre-2000 data is not lost. This means that IMDB's own data (review dates) give the lie to their other data (membership age).

IMDB publicly display erroneous member data and should be interested in correcting it. If something happened in 2000 that caused a hiccup in mebership tracking, then developers should age membership by earliest activity (like reviews), as contained in our own profiles.

I know this sounds trivial, but it's annoying to see my profile with bogus data that IMDB can't or won't correct.

I was going to comment on being referred to as an "IMDb member since January 2015," but, my bad, it said "January 2005." Fortunately, for some reason I realized that that might have been the case before I embarrassed myself.  However, I sincerely hope y'all get restored to you the recognition you deserve.  There's no excuse for a site as big as IMDb to allow an error in their membership database to go uncorrected for a year (or 15 years).  If the problem has been fixed, this thread should reflect that, even if it's just two words from IMDb:  "Issue resolved."  After all, we are instructed to search these messages before reporting a new problem.
