Not ideal and it has reduced the number of comments I get, but the only way I can reply to comments as I don't have a FB account, or one of the others the FB widget allows.
It is that flexibility of the FB widget that offers a solution - FB could return the favour and allow people to post comments using their IMDB accounts (they have code in the widget to allow Google accounts and others to use it but have disabled it because of disputes with them, IMDB pays nicer with FB). I mentioned it to an admin when this issue first came up and they said they'd look into it. Perhaps a friendly admin here would like to chase this up for us, as it'd be the best of both worlds then - people not wanting to link their FB and IMDB accounts (like the OP) or those without one (like myself) would then be able to reply using the IMDB account. Bingo. As this is marked "answered" it might not get any attention, so if there have been no replies I might post this as a separate suggestion (or anyone else can, it is hardly an original idea ;) ).

I thought there was a possiblity that this might be different for others, because it was my list. So I went to someone else's list titled "Dave Burgess recpmends". The same options were there, to comment and the button to check if one chooses to post to Facebook.
Now I had't looked at my Facebook page to see if the comments were there. So I just now checked my Facebook page to see if the comments were there. They are not. I did not check the "Post to Facebook" button.
Perhaps you could check one of your own lists to see if it's any different.

This has been the setup for a few months now, your problem seemed to be that you couldn't see the FB social plugin and, for some reason, this has now appeared for you. It isn't the kind of change I'm after, which would let people use their IMDB account login to post comments on IMDB.

Since you don't hae a FB account, it would seem that would disallow you to post comments on lists. Is that the case?
If you can post comments, how could that be possible without a FB account, if indeed IMDb is using the FB social plugin?
If you cannot post comments, then I see your point and I would take this up again with IMDb. If that is the case, it would seem somewhat disingenuous of IMDb to not allow non-FB users to not comment on lists.

I raised it at the time this happened, as did many other users who either don't have an FB account or don't want to link their accounts on FB and IMDB. I also posted this as a suggestion here:

Which about exhausts my avenues of attack on this problem and I just have to keep on using the workaround.

FB allow a number of other logins, so why not IMDB? They have a large enough user base and have demonstrated they can play nice with FB. Seems like win/win all round.

Of course, the ultimate question is why is IMDb using FB's plug-in? IMDb uses it's own login for questions & comments on films. Why not on lists?
