Who/What entity submits IMDB credits?

Some crew/cast on our mini-series have seen their credits appear on their IMDB pages, but some have not. Those who appear as credited on the show page do not know how their information got there, and would like to know. And, those who are not credited yet are wondering who will be uploading their information and when. Is this something that managers or agents take care of? No one here knows, even those on the studio side!!

Hi Allison -

You can find this question answered on our Help page here, which helps clarify that the information on IMDb comes from several different sources.  Cheers!

Hi there,  I did see that on your website before coming here. Unfortunately, I am looking for specific information about our show and how names are being entered. Is there anyone from IMDB who I can speak with on the phone? I am on the NBC-Universal lot and have many interested parties waiting for my report on this.

Yes, I understand. Honestly, I would very much like to speak with someone from IMDB about this. It's very disheartening that they seem to be so far unreachable.

IMDB should have record of who is uploading names to our show page. We need to discuss that information with someone from IMDB.

IMDB should have ways of verifying information, too. I need to discuss those methods with someone from their office, as well. If anyone has any contact information for IMDB that would be great. I need to get someone on the phone at this point.

Thanks, Tom. I have submitted to the private contact page. The CEO has also commented on this thread, so, hopefully I will hear back from someone soon. I understand that there is no public phone number but there has to be a way to be in touch with someone from their offices - email, chat, phone, something - so that I can have a conversation re submissions to our specific show page.

Yes, I read that. But I am looking for specific help on how credits are being added on our show page. Is it possible to speak with someone from IMDB about this? We have a number of cast who are anxious to get their credits up and they are upset to see some other cast members added when they are still missing from the credit list.

You can simply submit those remaining names to the title page. Especially if they’re anxious to get their credits up. It’s best to have proof, though (screencaps of the actual credits is always a pretty good option).

I know how to submit names myself -- that's not what I'm asking. IMBD is not made up by personal submissions alone, they have some sort of mass-submission or automated submission element. That is what I am asking about. This, specifically: "Our sources of information include, but are not limited to, on-screen credits, press kits, official bios, autobiographies, and interviews." I need information about how credits have been added to our show page (ie. what sources did those names came from...press kits? bios? etc?). I need to speak to an IMDB representative to ask about specific actors and crew on our show page to find out how their names were submitted to IMDB. These are people who have not self-submitted, but who are showing up as being submitted. Who submitted them? Where did IMDB get their specific names? Once I know where previous, existing submissions to our show page have come from, I can better answer why other people's names have not been submitted yet.

Hello, Allison.

I've heard about situation like this one myself and seen a few myself. Often when the project is in production for a long time and is still not on IMDb, some crew member decides to submit it oneself, as a result only submitting incomplete information, including, more often then not, people who she or he personally knows worked in the film. If you're looking for the person, responsible for original submission and adding people to the crew without asking their permission first without them only being known to a handful of other crew members it usually means that a fellow crew member added the title. I understand it might be an embarrasing situation, as I've heard that some funded projects lost their funding due to being added to IMDb "early".

It should be noted that I'm a bit out of context there as I'm an independent filmmaker from Ukraine so I am mostly out of system so far and it works different in each and single country, but I converse with a lot of filmmakers around the world casually and in situation like that you should search for an insider who added the title on IMDb and ask that person why he only added fewer names. That and, well, add missing names yourself to the best of your knowledge or inform a person who fulfills that function in your crew.

Michelle who answered above is an IMDb employee, many team members are on here.  I am the CEO and I am on here.  We are very reachable.  Also all updates are processed speedily outside of post-holiday catch-up times like now ... we deal with close to one million updates per week.  Please see https://help.imdb.com/article/contribution/contribution-information/when-will-my-update-be-added/GEK... and specifically https://contribute.imdb.com/times (offering a phone service would actually slow things down).

Hi Col, that's very reassuring! I'm going to re-submit a recent comment so that maybe you can help me: "... All submissions to IMDb are confidential, sorry.  This means we will not (and cannot) reveal who submitted any update to any other person, even if they are an official representative of the title concerned. On the flip side, we would never reveal your details if someone else asked for them either so this is a two way street for everyone's own protection and security.

The only exceptions are items such as reviews, biographies and plot summaries where the submitter has the option to sign their work publicly (and that is only an option not mandatory).

If there are errors or omissions then please use the "Edit page" button to add / correct them.  A general guide is available at https://help.imdb.com/contribution

Okay, thank you for that information. So, I cannot find out who/what/where the names that are already submitted came from. Since you are the CEO, maybe you can help me find the words to explain to cast members why their credits have not shown up  when others have. These are people who have never updated their own pages and usually see their credits show up right away without having to ask anyone. They are just confused and it's leading to a lot of confusion because no one on the production or studio side seems to know how to get their credits added en mass. Ie. if IMDB gets credit lists from Entertainment Partners (payroll), then I can go to Entertainment Partners and ask them to re-submit their credit lists to you at IMDB. Or if, say, Studio Publicity sends lists to IMDB, then I can get in touch with the right person there, so that they can send you an updated list. Do you know what I mean? Let me know if I need to word this differently.

Thanks for clarifying. The simple answer is the credits are not on IMDb because nobody has submitted them to IMDb. It's a little trite but it is the root cause of the problem. No single entity whether in payroll, publicity or wherever, is responsible -- if someone spots missing or inaccurate data then they should hit the "Edit page" button.

When the documentation above refers to official sources, what we mean is that people from the production (or official reps of talent) are clicking the "Edit page" button and sending the data to IMDb. We do not offer a bulk upload system, because once you know what you are doing, there's nothing which could be much faster, especially if it's a show with multiple episodes and a relatively regular cast and production team. Many productions assign someone from the team to be responsible for sending updates to IMDb; this can be at any level: we have well-known directors updating their own productions and others where a production assistant intern handles it.

Let's take a specific example.  Let's say you are working on season two of "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" then you would go to the title page for episode 2.1 and press the "Edit page" button to land here and chose to add 10 cast credits:

press the "Continue" button and then use "Click here to copy existing credits from the series or other episodes" (red highlight below) to navigate to season 1, and with 10 clicks you can, for example, cue up the top 10 cast additions:

If your show does not have any episodes added to IMDb yet, add the first one, wait for everything to be processed, and then the second and subsequent episodes will be a breeze to add and update.

Please write back if you need more specifics or if you want to share details of the show and someone will be willing to help.

Finally if you would like to easily add production art, on-set photos and a trailer or other promotional video content for your title then we recommend the free IMDb Scorecard service, see https://help.imdb.com/article/contribution/industry-professional/imdb-title-scorecard/GR6ELNEMQZADBQ...
