Why Aren't Votes on My Poll Getting Counted?

Hi!  To the side on a poll of mine, (a poll I created, not just voted on) in the Recent Activity, I see that people are voting for options, but for days and weeks it still has the same amount of votes.  It barely goes up.  Why?  Thank you!

Which one?
You could have just posted it on the Get Sat page for it.
One of us would have noticed.
They list polls in order.
You will get an initial surge of votes in the beginning because its up front.
When it gets down the list people dont usually go through all pages.
As a poll gets down that list people will see your poll when your polls contents relate to a title or an actor, etc
This is from the Lost in Space 1965 home page

See where it says "See more polls" on the page right?
Here is the page:
https://www.imdb.com/poll/?ref_=tt_po_sm
The poll main page
For a while while your "up front" you get votes
after that a popularity algorithm program must take over.
I have I believe 18 live polls.
Only one is getting close to 400 votes
My lost In Space poll had 120 votes within a month.
The next 4 months have netted barely 20 votes as it got down on the list.
The more current the stars and movies, the more votes you get.
This is not a hard and fast rule, because classic and silent era polls get votes too.
You never know pretty much how a poll is going to go. It's a "Go Figure" situation.
One poll I thought that was not so good has the 400 votes. Another thing that comes up that makes your numbers go up is having a lot of Live polls which takes time.
When you have a lot it snowballs.
People taking your polls if they like it will go to your ur (user) page and look at your other polss and vote on them.
Patience and time is required.
Jen has been doing these a long time and here average votes per poll is around 2000 or so.
That is because she has also had many IMDb Home Page polls.
The other reason is the shear body of work. She has A LOT of polls.
Oh and my average after those 18 is only around 225
Be patient.
You have to be in it for the long haul.

It happened to my film too. People are voting 8,9 and 10 stars and yet the number never increased by 1 voting rate. Not fair at all. My rating result got stucked the same for the past 3 months. Not fair at all. Very dissappointed.

Perhaps I didn't explain myself: on my Live Poll where it says, "Recent Activity," I see different usernames who have voted every few days, which tells me it's getting new votes.  But it still says I have 136 votes, for instance - the same as like a week or two ago.  You see?  It's like IMDb isn't counting my new votes.  Example:  (BTW these are made up usernames, as far as I know)

Recent Activity on Thursday:
Movie Dude voted for #5
Episode Queen voted for #10
Music Lover voted for #4
Total votes: 136

Recent Activity on Saturday:
Jazz 101 voted for #7
Princess voted for #11
Luke Sky voted for #12
Total votes: still 136

Hope that silliness made sense!  :)

It made sense.
I'd like to wait for an IMDb employee to answer on that.
I have seen the date style format too
Tell me what poll it is so I can vote on it and see what happens to the total!

Thank you!  I was gonna ask someone to vote!  It's my only Live Poll.  Here's the link: https://www.imdb.com/poll/HDRenTL0xLg/?ref_=po_ho

BTW, after you vote it will say total votes 137 - you didn't do that.  It's said that for a week or two.  Hopefully it will say 138.  Yes, I will vote on yours, too!  My username is NarniaIsAwesome on IMDb, also.

Yes!  It worked!  It says 138 votes!  Did mine work?  So, why are other people's votes not getting counted?  (Or at least it seems that way)

That "Recent activity" should be relabeled to
"This weeks activity"
That way you know if its got legs.
Like I said, once a poll is pushed off page 1 or 2 It takes a long time to get more votes.
If you get 100-200 right off its an OK poll
Under a 100....Oops! Not so good.
200-300 Good
400-600 in the first 30 days you hit a home run
600-800 a two run homer
800-1000  a 3 runner
1000 and up is a grand slam

It looks to me like the order of the Recent Activity is randomized so you can't tell if the votes are new.

I just voted in your poll too.

Yes it is very random.

Thank you -  I think I understand now!  BTW, your list might be a good poll.  My pick's number one, because I could say that for a lot of movies I've seen, lol!  :)  Here's a list I made that I suggested as a poll:  https://www.imdb.com/list/ls047410587/   Tell me what you think!

Only votes from accounts with confirmed email addresses are counted in the poll.  Customers can still vote with an unconfirmed account (and will be shown in "recent activity") but those votes are not included in the poll results.  This will account for the difference between the recent activity and the total votes.

Col,

Thank you for the explanation. I would have provided a similar answer since hb and Murray Chapman designed the poll software to only count votes from accounts with confirmed email addresses.

Assuming this is not proprietary information, could you provide any general statistics on the number of votes polls get from non-registered accounts?

As of December 20, 2018, the poll with the maximum number of votes has 51,491 votes. This means that there is a minimum number of 51,491 registered user accounts participating in the IMDb polls. I suspect that there is closer to 200,000 registered users that have voted in polls. There is potentially many more people who've voted in polls that do not have accounts.

Col,

Thank you for the response. I suspected that general statistics on the number of votes polls get from non-registered accounts is proprietary to IMDb.
