why does IMDB need to know my sex upon registry? Why is there no Other option?

why does IMDB need to know my sex upon registry? you people do realize there is not only male and female!? this question could cause a lot of distress to someone especially if they are unsure about their gender. I will say the same thing I say at the doctors office: if you need to know for some reason aside from enforcing gender roles (for you I would think maybe suggesting "chick flicks" for people identifying as female) i say: if you want to know if I have a penis or vagina or something else then ask that.

I am not an IMDb staff member. However, I may be able to provide some insight on this issue.

IMDb is asking for your age and gender strictly for demographics of their user base. As the LBGT community has clearly shown, gender identity is a continuum, not a simple male-female dichotomy.
For the purposes of signing up for an account, feel free to randomly choose a gender if answering this question makes you uncomfortable.

You do not need an IMDb account for most of IMDb's functionality. This is IMDb's privacy policy: http://www.imdb.com/privacy. I recommend that you read it prior to creating an account.
