When the review is out right racist why is it allowed to impact a movie's score? or even allowed on IMBD?

Reviews on IMDB are used to judge if a movie is good or not and in part that could have a direct effect on if someone goes and sees or purchases a movie. When that score is dragged down by reviews that are racist and have a terrible bias. What is IMDB doing to correct those scores? I do not know or expect any person to go through every review and verify the score of the movie or search for bias. But when it is blatant why isn't IMDB doing anything to stop it?

The following is an actual review of the upcoming black panther movie. I have reported it for its vulgar use of language but I do not think that is enough. Looking through many of the other aprox 3500 one star reviews of the movie they have the same tone and obvious bias. Some of which use the same vocabulary to announce their displeasure. In this review the reviewer seems to try and cover up their racism and then in the last sentence puts it out on display.

 1/10
Terrible

Worst movie, I've ever seen its terrible there's so many black people and there is no diversity. How can movies represent society if they are not diverse. It is extremely racist and has no place being a movie in 2018 with no diversity. Someone needs to put these self righteous fucking niggers in their place.
- end of review -

Some would want to turn this into a debate about freedom of speech but this is a website hosted by a company and the reviews and content of this website does have an effect on the reputation of that company. As well, when logging on you agree to a terms of use. So this is not a freedom of speech issue. If you walked into a store and used that same vocabulary they would ask you to leave as well.

I just don't want racists ruining the reputation of what can be a perfectly good movie.

The same is happening with my film Served Like A Girl. I didn't have a single one star review until last week, when I was targeted by by a white supremacist group. The attacks were personal. None of the reviewers actually watched the documentary. The attack is on me and so are the death threats.. How do I get these 1 stars taken down?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Why you block bad reviews of Black panther movie?.

I gave solid 3/10, because only Winston Duke and Andy Serkis (star for each character) characters were entertaining, and whole movie has repetitive scenario, is dull and boring.
It's most honest and truthful review of that movie.
Why do you censor people? Your CEO is BLMLGBTLMAOLOLWTF and will cry if somebody doesn't like it?
IMDB, grow up, snowflakes!

I do not call "dull and boring" an argued review, so I do not blame IMDb if they have really "censored" your review, which I doubt...

Haha, they moved my topic to this one and gave "Black Panther"  as a reason.
So basically IMDB admits bad reviews of that movie are considered racist by default.
LOL :D Goodbye freedom of speech. What a great time to live...

I'm not sure why you "Me too'd" my question and then posted your response disagreeing with me. But I guess I need to clarify for you.

I am not asking that ALL bad reviews be censored and removed. I am asking that the racist ones be. And I gave an example of that in which the review used this sentence. "Someone needs to put these self righteous fucking niggers in their place." Now if you don't believe that is racist then you are wrong. End of story.

But to talk about your review, I find that an acceptable use of IMDB and have no issue with it being posted. Even though towards the end you become a little incoherent and then start throwing out cliche overused political insults that have nothing to do with the movie. There are many other semi famous reviews on here that are also not well thought out and lacking actual merit such as the review of wolf of wall street. If you don't know that one it goes like this "there are no wolves in this movie - 1 star." But to say that IMDB is blocking bad reviews is a lie. There are plenty and I have read a number of them. As well as the 3500+ 1 star ratings that the movie received  BEFORE IT EVEN CAME OUT.

And lastly I would like to teach you what freedom of speech actually is because you seem to be from the camp that hears something and applies it everywhere even when it doesn't actually fit. Freedom of speech allows you to say whatever you want, where ever you are free to do so AS LONG AS it does not result in the harm of others. For example, if you yell fire in packed room and people trample each other to get out. You can and will be held responsible. Now in addition to that freedom we also sign that freedom away most of the time without actually thinking about it. For instance you can not claim freedom of speech if you yell bomb in a school, store, or office building. As such just by entering the building you are giving the right to the owners of that building to remove you if you do or say something that they do not allow or agree with. A company can do this because it is THEIR property and not belonging to the public. A website is much the same.

As for this website, you signed away aspects of your freedom of speech willingly. You did so when you created your account with the username "Chris". You created the account and agreed to IMDB's TERMS OF USE. You can not use foul language like I showed in the review before. You can not tell people to go kill themselves, insult people, etc. But you are still able to speak your mind freely and give your opinion on whether or not a movie was good.

I hope this makes it clear to you that your use of 'LOL :D Goodbye freedom of speech. What a great time to live...'" was neither funny, ironic, nor a good commentary of today's societal changes. It just showed your lack of understanding of what freedom of speech actually is and where it applies.

Wow, that was long. Ok, so I created own thread, but they merged it with yours.  I'm not "me-tooing" you - can be seen at the beginning of my post. I was trying to  ask why bad reviews of Black Panther movie are blocked. IMDB as cause provided only "Black Panther".

In the review itself I didn't used any curse words, didn't try to offend anyone. I just compared scenario to another movie and mentioned it was not entertaining. But, on the other hand, it had two great characters who saved whole film. Something along those lines, I don't recall exactly. So in my understanding I did nothing wrong.

But it looks like Black Panther is very important for everybody and it's politically correct to praise this movie. Disagreeing with that is considered racist by default and everybody who disagree should be banned. It can be seen on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Rotten Tomatoes and apparently IMDB as well. That's why I think freedom of speech is dying.

I can't find your comment about the movie but there are plenty of other bad reviews out there as well as the over 3500 1 star reviews the movie received before it was even released. So just because somehow your comment got killed it does not point to something nefarious going on at IMDB. Or them marking every bad review as racist.

Black panther is important for a lot of people. He is the first black marvel superhero in this universe (read film series) that has their own movie. As well as being a major comic book character. But I in no way think people are giving this movie good reviews because they are politically or socially forced to. Its a good movie, most of the marvel movies have been good or at least decent. They have been throwing a lot of money at them and they have been doing a good job creating them.

I think you should look at bigger issue of the obvious bias against black panther. There have been plenty of people in the alt-right and the right for that matter than already say the movie itself is racist against white people. Because even though it is set in the heart of Africa "doesn't have enough white people." Or the fact that the name of the movie is black panther those same people judge it as being involved with THE black panthers. Is it really that big of an issue that black people get more than 1 blockbuster film a year? Just because a bunch of people like the movie does NOT point to some conspiracy about no one being allowed to write a bad review about it.

Your first response on here uses the alt-right cliche terms to complain about IMDB's CEO being a "BLMLGBTLMAOLOLWTF" so I am betting you are more bias against this movie than you think or possibly let on.

BTW BLM means Black Lives Matter TOO, because cops always knew white lives mattered.

To Chris and Bloody 67.....No matter what, foul language is not acceptable.  As to racist, you must understand that this movie is set in a time era where the events that happen DO NOT center around white people.  Documentaries are typically very accurate, and having lived in that particular era of time, whites and blacks were not seen together in social settings. Having a post deleted is because of foul language or  racist tones and is not against your freedom of speech.  Another thing you may not say/claim as freedom is:  Sally has AIDS and you tell people that "Sally has AIDS".  Doing so IS AGAINST THE LAW.  Society would ostracize Sally.   Check it out if you don't believe me.
