To whom it may concern,

Today I got a message saying that I was unable to add anymore data to imdb, and it says that I  deliberately tried to violated your User Conduct Agreement? I don't understand what I did wrong? Ive been on here for 6 years and am a Top Contributor for 6 years and try hard to add correct info I would NEVER try to deliberately hurt Imdb ever, so I don't understand what I did that made me violate your rules? And If I did violate them it was by mistake and I didn't realize it. So I apologize to whatever I did? How can I get my privileges back?  May I ask has this ever happened to any other users and how did they fix it? Also you can message me if you want to make it more private if you wish, i don't mind. Thank you.

Hi, unknown1000. You might have been banned for making a difficult-to-revert mess and continuing to render similar errors are others titles. The ban is probably a way put you on pause, so that IMDb site authorities can have chance to inform you of the problems with your submissions, perhaps also to persuade you to contribute to the correction process, granted you've not violated their trust too much. If there is a misunderstanding, there is a strong chance that you're the one with the lack of understanding, as revealed in the GS topic found at the aforementioned "mess" hyperlink.

Hi all,

Please know that this isn't a decision that we have taken lightly. This is the latest in a long series of errors over the years that has caused significant clean-ups from both staff and other contributors, not all of which have been reported publicly. After repeated coaching from staff the users' accuracy level and understanding of policies are still below acceptable levels. Please see the Contributors' Charter.

Please let me stress that is an extreme and rare situation and isn't just linked to this one-off mistake.

Regards,
Will

I take Imdb very seriously and try very very hard to make it as correct as possible to the best of my knowledge.

Maybe as a suggestion, imdb should have a required source link for ALL updates for everybody that you MUST add a source for each update, would that help? cause i wouldn't mind that and if something is incorrect, I try to fix it.

Also  since imdb removed the Misc. Comment, that will make it even harder for imdb users to show proof that their update is correct...

Citing sources is one thing, but sometimes it is also important to justify a "correction" by referencing the guidelines found in the IMDb Help articles.

Thank for this response Will. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only contributor who was wondering about this particular situation.

Well, unknown1000, whichever IMDb employee told you, "Our customer service department will not be able to offer any additional insight or action on these matters", whether or not he/she had the authority to do so, is not interested in helping. But are you certain that the message pertained to nothing other than the ban?

You don't want to get too involved or wound up over this. It's really great to help update a database, but in all reality all you are doing is help a very large rich corporation make even more money and not get paid for it.
Take a break and have a rest from it for a while, it's not the end of the world.
