This happens to me too - I have a few that are high ranking on Google but sometimes they just disappear for a bit, then reappear.

However, a quick check shows none of mine are currently showing up (or that of other well visited ones), which is unusual.

If I had to guess I'd suggest staff have made lists unindexable for the moment while they deal with list spam, but it'd be good to get staff input on that.

I'm having this problem too. It is very frustrating. ALL my lists are no longer coming up in Google. This problem really needs to be fixed.

You think you have problems. My IMDb list account has 2, 000, 000 views, and did have up to 30, 000 views in the past 3 days. Now, every one of my 50 IMDb lists has been removed from Google, and I'm down to about 300 views a day.

I would say to go to you "Account Settings" . Under "Preferences", go into the first option "update general site preferences" and make sure that you have checked the box indicating that "You would like to receive email from IMDb, including the subsections for "watchlist updates" and "notifications of comments on your lists". It is very likely that if this was previously unchecked that IMDb considered these items private and therefore would not show up in a Google search. Make the changes if needed and save. Then try a new Google search. Also, make sure in your search to include your IMDb profile name.

I hope this helps.

Thank you for your reply, but it has nothing to do with that. I never unchecked the box that allowed for notification emails about my lists. Every single IMDb list made by me and every other user has been removed from the Google search results. There's really no answer I've found for this accept copywrite infringement is being controlled by Google, which really makes no sense considering IMDb lists are not infringement.

Maybe Imdb put a something in the robot.txt for all lists of their user stating to google to not index theses pages.
See Robots exclusion standard
I can't not find anymore a really good anime list by
johnpaulmcdonnell60 called Top 100 Anime Series Of All Time  . Only the name of users are now avaible through google search.

Here's your answer, and I just gave it a test run so it should work: go to Google, then type your username followed by lists and then type a colon (:) and then type www.imdb.com and hit enter. So for an example, there is a user named Gloede_The_Saint. So if you want to view his lists, type the following and replace his nickname with yours.

In Google, search this: Gloede_The_Saint lists: www.imdb.com

and that would give you that person's list. If this doesn't work, then I don't know what might...

More official, here's an image of what I mean:

I understand that that is the way to look up an IMDb list account . For example, mine is "ChrisWalczyk55," but that's not how you get a lot of views. Anytime someone typed into Google, "top 10 actors," or "top 100 movies," or "richest actors," my lists were the first to come up in the Google search results. The problem is that these lists have totally disappeared from Google.

Hi Chris,
Dan Dassow sums up really well what was going on  here
Hi Florian, I've confirmed that IMDb robot.txt file currently excludes searches for /list. However, /lists is not excluded. In effect this means that one can no longer find individual lists via a Google search, but can find lists associated with titles or people.

A Google search with the search terms:
site:imdb.com/lists "70 Best Vampire Movies"

So it's not  google fault but  imdb fault. For unclear reasons Imdb has decided to remove individual lists from search.

Yes, but then again, the views of IMDb lists have went down by well over 90%. Do you know if IMDb lists will ever be put back on Google?

I don't know, you should ask this question to imdb staff.

Hi youniquegeek,

when we search through google:
   site:www.imdb.com/list  best anime

we can indeed find imdb user lists, but not sorted by relevance. Indeed the "Top 100 Anime Series Of All Time" is not on the results by johnpaulmcdonnell60.
So I guess imdb did nothing wrong, but google change its search algorithm, so that we can't find popular imdb list. But it's strange, why google did erase relevant search results.

No worries. Just arrange the typing. Google it like this:

johnpaulmcdonnell60 lists, top anime: www.imdb.com

and here is your result:

Is that what you hoped it would show up as now?

There are indirect links to the list but not direct link
http://www.imdb.com/list/Xkud5BuJuX8/
It's like google don't show direct link to imdb user link unless you ask him clearly to search among imdb user list by the search operator site:  followed by imdb.com/list and some keywords

for example
site:imdb.com/list anime
Google is avoiding direct link to imdb user list. I don't know why.

You must type it in like I specified! Look at my image and look at the search term I put in. The very first link is a direct link to your list...

With Google's algorithms these days, certain ways of input equal certain ways of output. But the most accurate or direct way for input is as I show you.

The first result is not a direct link to the list but a link to all lists of one given user
http://www.imdb.com/user/ur38360119/lists

so it doesn't count for a direct link, which is
http://www.imdb.com/list/Xkud5BuJuX8/

So here is a question related to forbidding of indexation by google robot and search operatot site: that I don't know the answer.

Can or can't google search whith the search operator site : among websites pages forbidding indexation by google through their robot.txt .

If Google can search among pages though they have robot.txt forbidding search by google robot
  • then it's imdb, that is guilty , because their robot.txt of imdb user list pages is different from their other imdb website pages ( especillay imdb user pages) and forbidden indexation by google robot
If Google can't search among pages forbidding indexation by their google robot through search operator  site: .
  • then the problem doesn't came from the robot.txt file of imdb user lists pages, because I was able to search among imdb lists through this search operator. So the problem comes from google search algorithm, which is avoiding imdb user list pages

You asked about a direct link to that user and "anime list" so the 1st url is a direct link. It does not get more direct than that. Your second link is a redirect link through Google's servers because you did not type the operator correctly, as I showed you how to. So that's all I can help on. Wait for someone elses opinion on what I directed to help you and see what they say.

Your other question I have no idea about regarding a search operator. Post a new question about that.

Good luck.

I finally found the problem on imdb robot.txt file http://www.imdb.com/robots.txt
Disallow: /List

So clearly Imdb doesn't want anymore, that search engines (like Google) index imdb user lists
