Why is Carl Sagan's The Cosmos not included in the Top Rated TV Shows with over 5000 votes?

The show has over 7000 voters and stands at a 9.6. Just wondering why Planet Earth(9.5) and Game of Thrones(9.4) are the top ranked.

I believe it's because it is a mini-series, which are not included in that list.

Ah, I see. I can understand that when the show came out it labelled itself as a TV-mini-series, but I don't see the format any different from a show like Planet Earth; one season, 10+ episodes all with a different span. It's very unfortunate that this is the case though because more attention and recognition for The Cosmos would be great.

It might be that it was made at one time, with a specific number of episodes (or total running time) in mind rather than separate, unrelated segments (episodes) which, by definition, makes it a mini-series. It's not what you call yourself, as much as it is, by definition, what you actually are. You could try to persuade a change by stating it has more than the 2-4 episodes the guidelines suggest, but the guideline is a very loose one and that might not get accepted.

Cosmos is probably most properly designated as a mini-series. When Carl Sagan promoted Cosmos, he indicated that a limited number of episodes would be produced. I distinctly remember him promoting it on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Mr. Sagan was a regular on that show since he was a popular guest and Mr. Carson was an amateur astronomer.

Good info. There we go...by definition, a mini...as I suspected. Thanks Dan.
