Although “Wings” was released in 1927, when sorting by release date it's listed as 1929.

dlambe3,
Wings (1927) lists several USA release dates, including a New York City premiere on August 12, 1927. Presumably, the 1929 release year is the film's broad release throughout the U.S, which is displayed in the image you've posted.
Hopefully, an official IMDb representative will be able to answer your inquiry.

If I'm not mistaken, Howard Hughes filmed this in the Silent Era, and released it in 1927. Then immediately Re-shot the whole picture again as a Talkie. Hence the two release dates.

This was also part of the Plot in The Aviator. Believe he used the same cast as Hughes was known for signing all his stars to multi year contracts.

Howard Hughes did not make either of the films mentioned here, so perhaps we could stick to the facts.

Anyone reading this should look at this article.
It is a story about the restoration of the first full feature picture to win an Academy Award.

I Could storyboard a TV Series Based off this one shot!
It would be to expensive to produce unless all the Actors/Actresses were just starting out and would work for scale.

So it isn't so unusual that this date is used, although it's perhaps a bit inconsistent which dates are used in various site and app features.

Edit: TCM's site also says, "Wings was not widely released until January 5, 1929."
