The actor or actress make the performance great, but a great character to channel certainly helps. These characters have been garnered Oscar nominations multiple times, portrayed sometimes by the same actor and other instances by multiple actors.

Which memorable multiple Oscar nominated character is the most worthy of their multiple nominations?

'Really great poll! 'Great list of characters, too, so I'll have to deliberate before voting. I noticed one little typo:

The actor or actress make the performance great, but a great character to channel certainly helps. These characters have been garnered Oscar nominations multiple times, portrayed sometimes by the same actor and other instances by multiple actors.

(Omit "been.")

Thanks, good catch, leftover from a previous edit. I will take credit for the idea and the layout, as for the list I had great material to work with. I made the correction plus tweaked the introduction and question. Thanks for your help.

Update: Worthy Multi-Oscar Nominated Characters
The actor or actress make the performance great, but having a great character to channel certainly helps. These characters have garnered Oscar nominations multiple times, sometimes portrayed by the same actor and in other instances by multiple actors.

Which memorable multiple Oscar nominated character is the most worthy of their repeated nominations?

I totally understand why Americans voted for Lincoln instead of Elizabeth I, but seriously: Rocky???

It is early in the voting plus popular choices always do well regardless of the question. I think it is notable that three British crowns made the list: Queen Elizabeth I, Henry VIII of England and King Henry II. However, it may work against them by splitting their votes, rather than concentrating them if there was just one choice.

Thanx for trying to solace me -- I'm not even british -- it's still ridiculous to prefer Rocky Balboa to Elizabeth I.

I like Sly, but I would agree.  Any one of three nominated Queen Elizabeth Oscar performances blow away either one of his nominated Rocky Balboa Oscar performances.
