Writing credits on different screens

I've noticed this problem a lot recently (mostly relating to positions like story editor or staff writer). My understand per the writers guide is that the second number does not change unless there is a specific "and" in the credit. Thus, story editors that may appear on two or three different screens of credits, should increment the third number, not the second number.

https://contribute.imdb.com/updates/guide/writers

Specifically this line: "If names have no punctuation between them, assume they are joined by "&" (i.e. increment the third value). In other words: unless specifically separated on-screen by the word "and", do not use the rewrite group (i.e. leave second value as "1"). " It does not specifically state anything about credits that don't appear on the same credit screen but the last part seems fairly specific.

Am I wrong? If not, is there a way to reach contributors that continually make this mistake? It seems a large portion of episodes I edit have this "mistake".

Hi Adrian -

Yes, you are correct regarding the order formatting of Writer credits.  Unfortunately, ordering these credits can be confusing for a lot of contributors,  while we try to catch the mistakes as best we can and reach out to contributors, some incorrect credit orders slip through.  If you can provide some examples here where you are seeing an incorrect order, our staff will be happy to take a look and message the relevant contributors.

Star is like that 171013-202639-425000

Lucifer as well 171009-214836-811000

I'm sure there are others. as I find them, I'll add them here. The real problem (besides the annoyance of needing correcting) is that they get into the area to copy from previous episodes and from there it just snowballs as always being wrong.

The last episode of SEAL Team I watched had the weirdest listing for the 6 staff writers.

Hi Adrian -

I'm just following up here to confirm that the Writer order numbers for the titles you reported have now been adjusted accordingly.  Our editors are also planning to modify the Help guide for Writer credit orders to help make correction instructions more transparent.  Cheers!
