Some sneaky people create fake movies or
falsely credit themselves with big names in the big movies
to promote themselves on IMDB.
So they can get the clicks, free promo.

It's been 2 years since I started reporting these kinda stuff
and still can't figure out how these fake stuff got approved.

Here is "James Potter and the Lost Wand" everyone!
Some Turkish child actor called "Emirhan Akbaba" directing it and playing in it, with his friends and relatives. Based on character by J.K. Rowling, so they can get the clicks.

According to his name page https://www.imdb.com/name/nm4606848/, he is 18, not a child actor.
A trailer even seem to exist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zvDFPJucfmg
As far as I am concerned, not enough evidence that this a fake.

Moreover, there seems to be a background for a fan film: http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/James_Potter_I%27s_wand
(James Potter is Harry's father)

Hey Vincent, so you're saying that "fan-made short"s submitted on IMDB makes it on original writer's -in this case J.K Rowling-'s official IMDB page and considered as a part of writer's work? I know that only some of "high quality or well executed" fan-made Star Wars shorts' got approved and, seen by George Lucas' himself and, so the crediting "George Lucas" as a writer was possible.

Without quality check and authors' permission, IMDB pages would have been a mess because as we can see there are thousands of fan-made stuff; with a background story or not.

The status is still "filming" as of last October, so its actual outcome and quality and future distribution cannot be prejudiced, from the information I tried to gather.

I know of a short filmmaker that has over 100 shorts here that are all legit. Some have blatant name association. Heck porn titles have been doing the name association thing for 50 years!

Hi Jack,

Thanks for your patience.

Please see our announcement thread here:

https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/uncredited-writer-characters-created-by-policy-change

For our 'based on character by' policy. In short, if the title ends up released but doesn't include J.K. Rowling - the credit can be removed as ineligible. However, if the title is released and she is credited - the listing is factual and should not be removed.

I hope this helps.
