Collapsed comments

Just like in the last update the likes get collapsed when over a certain amount, I think it would be handy for the comments to behave the same.

I follow a few people which have huge amount of followers, and the activity on their pictures is long sometimes. Some people post essays as their picture titles as well, I'm not against that, sometimes I just like to look at the pictures and not read the fluff :)

Hi Simon,

Thanks for the suggestion. We're always looking at ways to improve the user experience, and this is certainly one of them. I'm going to change the topic of this post from Question to Idea so that other users can support this feature request as well!

Thanks again,
Josh

i totally agree, sometimes i don't even follow someone because they always get a huge amount of comments and i don't want to have to scroll through them when i am checking out my feed

Totally agree. The fact that users with lots of followers also get lots of comments kinda ruins the twitter-like quick fix of scrolling through a bunch of photos. Now I'm flipping through five screens of comments for every photo. Makes it feel less about the photos which is why instagram is so awesome: because it's just about one thing (the photos!). At any rate, I think the ability to show comments collapsed by default would preserve the simplicity and focus of the experience.

While I love the simplicity of having the comments on the screen, I'm starting to agree with this idea. It's getting to the point where I want to unfollow certain users just because their comment threads are just too long to scroll through, which is kind of sad.
