Give the option to save/share pics larger than 612x612

Please give the option to upload pics at larger sizes than 612x612, for people who care more about photo quality than upload speed. Or at least make the version that gets saved to the Camera Roll be full quality/full size.

I want full resolution as much as anyone here (I've been reluctantly posting a few instagram photo to flickr because they look better than the unedited photo despite the poor resolution).

But they do say this is mostly bug fixes and new features are coming soon.

So hopefully this will be one of the new features.

Yeah I want full res images and would also like the original photos to be stored on my phone as well as the filtered ones, and provide a setting toggle to do so.

The only reason I'm not using Instagram 100% of the time is I can't upload full quality images to Flickr and save them to my camera roll. With the 3GS, I can print 4x6 with a small amount of cropping on the long edge, so I usually shoot with that in mind. The reduced filtered images are fun to share on facebook, but not beyond that.

I tried to print a instagram photo and the quality is very bad... so I think full res is a must. We are dealing with photos and photos should be printed and framed and hanged...

I like Filipe Varela's idea. Post the low-res 612x612 filtered image to Instagr.am while leaving the full resolution image in the native camera roll.

I agree. I have really strarted to lose interest as a result of this feature. I feel like the overall quality of shots I see is dropping and I wonder if this is why. I know I certainly care less about making something really outstanding if it is only for face book. I look forward to the next update.

I agree on the need, but disagree on the time limit or that we haven't been heard. Developing this and making decisions around this is not an easy, quick thing.

Sigh. I do wish they'd hurry it along, though.

Yes please... the filters you cats have created are great and I'm a big big fan... but the jpeg artifacting, and limited size are a drag... + 1 for the option to save the original size etc... and how about if we do save the large size, there's minimal jpeg compression too? ie really good quality...

thanks team!

This is really disappointing! I would think that allowing saving at high-res would be easier than adding new filters. This is apparently not a priority to the Instagram team. I've lost interest for now and stopped using the app a while ago. I also do not feel like working on a pic that I can't save at a decent resolution.

People, I'd suggest you scan this page for official employees' comments. They already said that they will include full-res soon.

They said "soon" 4 months ago, and have released at least 3 updates since then with no sign of actually incorporating the change.

An easy way for a startup to prioritize upcoming features is by the amount of demand for them; the more people continue posting how much they value full resolution photos the more clear it will be to Instagram that implementing this feature should be a priority.

I'm really looking forward to options for a full resolution save; sacrificing speed is just fine in this case. I don't carry around another camera anymore because of photo processing apps like this, which redeem my 3G's native camera to something I enjoy playing with. It is, however, a distinct disappointment to know that the largest edited image I'll get from this app is going to be so small. I've got over two dozen photo apps on my phone, and Instagram is in my top three used. I look forward to seeing an option for a full resolution save.

I love this idea. It'd be great to maintain the current option to save the original file, but also have the option to save a high-res version of the finished file to the camera roll.

The low resolution is keeping me from using Instagram seriously. I hate to upload Instagram pictures to Flickr because of the limited resolution.

Please make this a priority.

picplz has totally overhauled their UI (basically cloning Instagram) and their filters are improving with each update. Add the fact that they have an Android app already, and support full resolution images on both Android and iOS, and there's a strong competitor out there that has already beaten Instagram to the punch on this.

I still think Instagram's filters are among the best I've seen on the iPhone, I would *love* to be able to use it daily.

This has been fully discussed on several threads @joshjohnson on IG itself. People are even willing to pay for the filters, me included. Make it a .99 or 1.99 app add on. Surely the IG team knows by now that this is what people want.

At this point, I have to believe: if they could implement this easily, without screwing up other features and overall program structure, they would have.

I guess it is also possible that the design or development process is stymied by an unwillingness to change the program's philosophy... but I kinda doubt it. Instagram was obviously made by smart and savvy folks... the kind that know you can't stand still.

My encouragement to the developer would be to remember there is always a third path. Full-resolution pictures could be a separate mode, a different panel, follow a different set of upload rules or similar.

Sometimes you have to think sideways. There is always a third way, and with computers, there is no such thing is, "We can't do that."

Valid point. Instagram seems to have a solid business plan and I'm sure they have a strategy mapped out for profitability. If they underestimated the value of full res images they may be unwilling (or unable, in the short term) to deviate from their roadmap.

Something else I need to remind myself is that adding full res will effectively double (or triple) their bandwidth and significantly increase their storage needs immediately.

I get that there are reasons why we're not seeing the feature yet, but I'd rather hear an honest response as to when we can expect it than "oh yeah that's coming soon" when it really isn't.

Instagram can count on my money if they opt to implement it as a paid feature, or release a "Pro" version of the app.

All I've seen from instagrams developers when trying to bring this up to them is for them to refer us here (even if when contacting them I mention that I have posted here several times). It seems like they definitely know about it but want to see more push for it? so i'm resolving with every update that does not have full res to make sure that the need is still here. i will continue to post my want/need for this feature, and all i can hope is that they will notice the consistency.

Time since I last posted here: 4 months. Time since I last used Instagram: 4 months.

I think that pretty much says it all. Still waiting on some major update, in the meanwhile there's Hipstamatic, Camera+, CrossProcess, PicPlz, etc.

Even if they made it into a separate photo/filter app if it is too hard to implement into their current app. I know nothing about programming or app design, and I would agree that there are probably several reasons why they have not done so as of yet. But we are waiting, some of us more patiently then others.

The IG team stopped by South Park Thursday and I asked Kevin about high res. He said it is one of their most requested features and will be added, but didn't give a timeline.

It will take more work than I thought.

Walden and Hefe were created using vector graphics and are ready for high res, but the others are coded for 612x612.

So they need to rewrite 12 filters before it can be implemented.

It will take longer to process a high res image, but that is a tradeoff I'm willing to make (and perhaps even upgrade to an iPhone 5 for more speed when I was planning on waiting for 6)

I would pay, as an in-app purchase, for full resolution. after all, this is a free app that has brought me loads of satisfaction and I use it loads.
