Overwhelming sign-up screen.

I wanted to try Instagram but got stopped cold at the sign-up screen. Not because it doesn't work -- but because it requires far too much info.

Keep in mind that you don't (AFAICT) offer an option to create a new account on your site, so all this info has to be input via iPhone keyboard:

- First Name
- Last Name
- Email
- Username
- Password
- Phone (optional, I know)
- Gender
- Picture

Ugh.

I'd submit that you need no more than 3 of these fields to get a user up and running:

- Email
- Username
- Password

Additional info (gender, picture, real name) could be optionally filled out after the account is created and the user has had a chance to try the app.

On top of this, it'd be great to be able to create a new account via the site, where the sign-up form could be filled out more quickly.

Thanks.
