Web profiles for Instagram users?

Any chance you're planning on a web profile for app users? I think it's a fantastic program, but I'd love to be able to link to a URL for my own profile so I can see images, followers, comments, etc. You can do this with Twitpic, and it's really useful - I think it would make Instagram the ultimate social imaging app!

Well, i see Instagram as an iPhone only tool. I'm not really sure, if a web profile makes sense...

yes of course - better invite possibilities etc., better promotion for the service. some things are also better to handle, edit, delete or whatever when you access them in a webbrowser and not on the iPhone. what i didn't like about treehouse is that it is walled into the iPhone and that feels strange to me.

I agree that a web profile would be ideal. Instagram can link to tumblr and that's nice and all, but it's trying to be a sharing site, and I have an easier time clicking around through people's profiles and images on my computer (plus I'm only paying for wireless there, not a data plan). It might help work out some of the kinks (re: http://getsatisfaction.com/instagram/...) with profile creation too.

Agreed, it's like TwitPic. Photosharing should be accessible via the web. If you tweet a pic, it links back to the Instagr.am website, but you can't do anything else (see other pictures by that user, etc). Plus, sometimes I'll post a picture that I'd like to share later, without having to repost it. Just something to consider.

I like this idea and spent a little bit of time trying to find out how some users have posted links to their photos (I'm assuming in-app via twitter).

Not looking for a mass of features, just, a list like the feed in-app (but for you only) so you can send it to others who don't have Instagram. Something to link the app and the web together a little better. Love it otherwise! ^-^

I'd even pay for a pro account on the website.
So you could give us more features but still keep a free product in the App Store, for all those who just want a simple and easy to use photo sharing app.

I see little point in 'sharing' to my networks on Facebook or Twitter if my contacts can only click through, see one photo, and a pitch to download the app. Instagram is great as a self-contained social network, but to really succeed it needs to be much more open, and a fully-functional web profile and gallery is a huge part of that.

The most important part for me would be the option to see all my pictures, the pictures I liked within the app and maybe to see the pictures of the people I follow.

I love how the photo pages are displayed now. But I'm constantly clicking on peoples names to to view other photos by that person or (more importantly) follow that user.

I'm with this 100%. Some sort of online community to share Instagram profiles and photos would make this app a full 5 stars in my opinion. That and the resolution, butbim sure the developers are tired of hearing about that at this point. x)

I'm enjoying the app! Looking forward to seeing what you guys have in
store for the future. I'd definitely like a URL that I can direct people to that
displays all of my Instagram photos on the web. Thanks! Lindsay

Just keep it simple to release it more quickly. I think photos are enough for starters.

In my opinion a web profile wouldn't be necessary if the iphone app becomes complete in the future. In my opinions the only things i miss is knowing who is following me back and who has commented the same pictures as i did (i also created a new topics about that if you wanna discuss it) but on my opinion if the app gets totally functional a profile on the web wouldn't be necessary.

but if you never post a link of your photo to twitter, flickr, ... you'll never know the link of that photo and therefore won't be able to look at it online...

Disagree, this means no one can view your entire gallery without having an iphone.

I agree; IG would be a lot more functional for me if I could reasonably do things like managing my images -- there are some I'd like to delete but having to reload the first 100 to get to a single image every time is tiresome.

I don`t own an iPhone and most likely never will. But a lot of friends do and I really would like to be able to follow there pictures posted to instagram. So some sort of web accessibility either an RSS feed or a custom web page would not care which just something. Hope this feature become a reality, and would be really nice!

You can do this on http://followgram.com. Click on the users profile and use the subscribe button at the bottom of the profile page to get the RSS feed.

We know this already but if you have a social network for instagram on the phone I think an interface online would be helpful for people who want to browse the photos when not on their phone.

i think thins is flickr..... instagram is all fake photography. People download photos and uses here. Instagram has no copyright laws, this is really a bad thing for photographers......

All my photos on instragram are my own photos, 99% of people's are their own photos, I agree that instagram needs to get rid of people using other peoples photos but you are saying it like instragram is the only place with the problem, most blogs or photo services deal with this, it isn't new at all, go do some research.

xstex is right, this isn't a new problem. And it is also not Instagram's or the team behind its fault. If you take someone else's property and use it or even distribute it on your own, it's always illegal.
It's not Apple's fault if you listen to music you downloaded illegally on your iPod.

You got it spot on ener. Theirs no way to prevent it other than checking everything that comes through and deleting it, most of it will be impossible to determine who has copyright, but MOST of it is real like every other service, you will find copyright breakers on flickr, tumblr and even twitter.

Doesn't the EXIF tell you what device was used to take the photo? If you import a photo into your iPhone, does it remove that data?

That's why, in another suggestion thread, I was asking that they tell you where the photo originally came from when you view it in Instagram. At least then we'll know who is actually taking these photos on the phone, and who is taking old photos and sprucing them up for the site.

I completely disagree. There's nothing fake about instagram in itself; it's the users or abusers that lead to the issue of copyright infringements and the like. And that's been around as long as there's been copyrights to infringe.

I've never downloaded someone else's photo - why would anyone want to? That's the fun of instagram - taking photos w/ your phone & doing neat stuff to them (although some users take photos w/ their camera & and then use instagram, but I've never understood "why" they'd do that either).

@samdavis - instagram strips EXIF data from photos, that's the biggest flaw I see from this app.

I'd love this is as well. I think it would be nice if people viewing your new pic, could also see what you did before. Not everyone has an iPhone of course, so then they too can browse your history

Hey guys,

Thanks for all the fantastic feedback about what you'd like to see on a web version of Instagram. We're working on this feature currently -- until then, please do continue to add your thoughts on what you'd like us to include here.

Thanks!
