What's up with Instagram's Demand for 24 hr Access to my Data?

Why does Instagram demand total control over my data when I ask to submit a photo to Facebook? In order to use Instagram with FB I must agree to let you guys access my name, profile picture, gender, networks user ID, LISTS OF FRIENDS, and any other information I've shared with everyone." I must agree to give you the right to post messages, notes, status updates, photos and videos to my Wall.

AND... I must agree to let you 'access my data at any time" even when I'm not using the application!! This means I turn over my data to you on a 24/hr standby basis. Incredible. I will never allow this.

So, what's the deal with the draconian info requests?

Hi There,

So sorry to hear this bugs you. The only way we can share to your feed without having you log in every single time is by asking for these permissions. Facebook makes everything sound much scarier that it is -- mostly because there are lots of apps out there that take advantage of users' data.

The only thing we ever do with the data you give us is to share to your wall when you request this to happen. Only this. Unfortunately, we can't just ask for that permission in plain english, and the permissions dialog sounds like we're going to use all that data.

I hope this addresses your concerns. Feel free to email me personally if you have questions kevin@instagr.am

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for the extended and concise response. You're explanation makes perfect sense and you've allayed my fears, which is great, cause I'm gonna love uploading my instagram images to my FB page.
