I’m frustrated

Air LP Bluetooth Speaker won't pair / won't play to Apple products

I just purchased this Ion Audio Speaker: https://www.ionaudio.com/products/det...

...and I cannot get it to work at all over bluetooth, after several hours of trying everything that I can think of, plus a whole bunch more from the Net.

1) I can get it to pair to several Mac laptops (running Yosemite and El Capitan) - pairing ring turns blue and the Mac think's it's connected. But after that it will not show up in the list of valid sound devices and so can't be used to play audio.

2) I cannot even get it to pair _at all_ to two different IOS devices (an iPhone and Ipad). I just get "pairing unsuccessful" on the IOS device and the pairing ring on the speaker stays red.

I would like ION support to give some advice that's useful here. Please do not just cut-and-paste the manual as a reply - I can read, and have followed the instructions in the online manua. I have done multiple Google searches as well (including others on this forum reporting similar problems) and tried everything suggested. So, please do not suggest any resets, power cycling, trying multiple other bluetooth devices, deleting the device from the list of bluetooth connections and repairing, going into a dark RF shielded room, etc etc....I have done all of those. Multiple times. I have also factory-reset the speaker, even though that technique is not shown in the manual.

(BTW, I'm a sound technician for a living - well-versed in interfacing different manufacturers' devices wirelessly. This ain't a noob mistake.)

Thank you.

  • Hello,

    Thanks for posting.

We suggest trying other Bluetooth devices, resets, etc. because this is the way to go about troubleshooting a problematic connection. If you have gone through everything that you said that you have above and are still having issues, it's probably an issue with your speaker, which will require servicing.

Warranty and non-warranty claims are not handled here on the forum but I can point you in the right direction to help you out!  Here are a couple of options that you could choose from:

    • Submit a Warranty Claim or Service Inquiry with our Technical Support team by logging onto www.ionaudio.com/support.  Select Warranty Claim or Service Inquiry from the drop-down menu.

    or

    • For quicker support, call your nearest Support Office. Their office contact numbers are listed on that page.

    I hope this helps!

Make sure to reference or link this thread to help out the support team. Let me know if you have any additional questions.

  • Thanks, Bill. If you say this isn't a common problem, I will be happy to try the support route again. It's just that other people have reported it as well (see the first post above) so I thought it was an engineering issue, not a failure with one unit alone. I do have other Bluetooth speakers from other manufacturers and they seem to work fine with all the devices I've tried.

    Thanks.

Jon, maybe don't bother. I just paid to ship my Air LP Speaker to Ion and get a warranty replacement unit. That replacement arrived today and....no change. Exact same problems: Pairs to my Apple laptop but not seen as audio output device; does not pair at all to iPhone or iPad running latest iOS.

I'm giving up. The cheap $12 Bluetooth speaker I got on Amazon pairs instantly and plays perfectly with all my apple devices. It sounds good enough; I really cannot believe how much time I've wasted trying to make this Ion device work.

  • Same thing here too. It seems to be speaker and iOS errors but Apple tried to find firmware and said it has all
Up to date updates so if on iOS end it should work. They suggested contacting ION, so doing that AGAIN. We also got a replacement speaker but it was the same thing, unsuccessful. We have other ION products that pair perfectly. It seems to be this specific one.
