Anyone have issues logging in from Amazon Fire

Is anyone else having problems logging into their account from the Amazon Fire iRule app (v4.5.0) via their Google login? It appears that Google has deprecated the API that the Fire app uses to log in. Attached are two image files. The first was a warning message I was receiving a few weeks ago and the second is what I am seeing now. It appears that the Amazon app is now DOA.

  • I heard back from iRule support and they know about the issue. I am guessing not a lot of people use the Amazon Fire. If you do, do not attempt to sync as it will fail.
Below is the transcript of my exchange with support.

    Hi Andy,

I think we submitted a version to Amazon but they never approved it and haven't responded to us.

Thank you for the response. Will you be updating the version of the app in the Amazon store? It is currently version 4.50 from early 2016. I attempted to side load 4.7.3 on the Amazon Fire, but it does not work either.

    Andy,

The reason why is because authentication changed on Amazon tablets, which require new version of the app.

Starting this past weekend, I have been receiving the error shown in the attached image when I attempt to log into the iRule app on my Amazon Fire table using my Google Login. This error only occurs on my Fire tablet, and not on my Lenovo Android tablet, nor my iPad. Thanks in advance for your help.

  • I have exact the same problem. Any news to this? I do not want to buy a new tablet computer just to solve a simple login problem.

  • I have not heard anything more and I doubt I will. To me, it felt like Alex from iRule didn't really care that it wasn't working and that iRule wasn't going to do anything about it. You could trying sending in an email to support to see if they give you a better answer.

  • Ok, it seems you can get iRule to work on the Fire, which is good news because I find the HD8 an ideal and ( relatively ) cheap option. You need to install Google Play though, as described here: https://www.techjunkie.com/chrome-kin...

Allow third party app installation first, then scroll down to "Install Google Play." I just downloaded each apk on the list and selected "open" so it installed once downloaded. I also installed the versions linked to on that page ( there are newer versions but I played it safe. ) After that, iRule should be able to authenticate.

I logged in to Google Play first, but I don't think you need to. I guess you can also download the latest iRule using Google Play but I'd already installed the apk so didn't try that.
