Controlling Lutron Grafik Eye with network/IP/Telnet commands?

Will iRule be able to control my Lutron Sivoia QS wired shades working with a Lutron Grafik Eye QS, using IP commands to a Lutron QSE-CI-NWK-E IP to QS Link bridge? I already have the bridge, and I heard that iRule wants to control a Grafik Eye through a Global Cache GC-100 or something like that. But I don't want to use IR, the IP control is available and more rich/robust and I paid $300 for it :-)... Thanks!

Yes, it can be done, but it will not be easy. You will need a copy of the Lutron QS Integration Protocols.

    http://www.lutron.com/TechnicalDocume...

You will need to use a telnet client to set the network settings, configure the Sivoia control, and test your commands. It may be easier and faster to hire a Sivoia installer to do this for you.

Then in iRule you may need to create your own Device with your commands in it. iRule will then send the commands to the IP address of the QSE-CI-NWK-E, which will send them to the Sivoia, and the shade will move.

  • Yes. I have the integration protocols, and have tested some of the commands personally with a telnet client. This is good news, I was under the impression that custom iRule Devices weren't possible. I figured if I could create a custom device, and open a telnet client in it to the IP:Port of my choosing, and send any text/hex commands I want to that port, I should be okay.

I purchased, wired, and programmed my Sivoia QS, Grafik Eye QS, and Keypads myself when I built my home theater - never did involve an installer. Heh - the equipment was expensive enough on its own :-)

  • OK. Sounds like you have the Lutron portion under control. Now you just need to setup iRule to send your commands to Lutron

You CAN create your own Devices. I know you can because I have done it. You can either create a new empty Device or you can copy an existing Device and modify it.

You can also create an XML Device file and upload it to iRule.

I HIGHLY recommend you download the sample file in the tutorial. I found it easier to modify the sample file than to start with a blank file. For a Device with only a few commands, it may be simpler and faster to just do it in iRule itself.

  • Thanks Mike! I wanted to "reset" my trial since I wasted it a year ago. Got it and then life got in the way - but it sounds like support is not good on this product anymore. No matter - for $50 it seems reasonable to start and learn things even if the product dies in a year or two.

Do I need the $100 license for anything you're proposing? If so, I can swing that too. Like I said at the beginning, I paid $300 just for the Lutron bridge... :-)

    Thanks again.

You need the Pro license for Feedback. You also get more Handsets.

    https://irule.desk.com/customer/en/po...

You can always start with a basic license and upgrade later for $50, so it's the same cost now or later.

It's true that iRule does not monitor the forums much anymore. As far as I know, they still respond quickly to email (support@iruleathome.com).

iRule has what they call select/deselect groups, which you can use to create "pseudo-feedback". Say you have 4 inputs that can be connected to a switcher output. You can create select and deselect groups so that, when you press the source 1 button, it is shown as selected, and the other 3 source buttons are shown as deselected. You can do the same thing for each output, and build a page that shows the status of each output.

There are other software solutions out there that also work with Global Cache hardware, so that would cushion the blow somewhat if iRule disappears.
