Disable "dim screen mode" if screen is turned off manually

I appreciate the dim screen feature for battery conservation, but sometimes I like to turn the screen completely off manually (either with the hard button or I also have an app launch widget that does the same thing). I don't have any sort of lock screen, so I just tap the hard button to turn the screen back on and get right back to the iRule action. Unfortunately, it would appear that the app still enters dim screen mode regardless of whether the screen is on or not. So its a slight annoyance to turn the screen on AND tap the screen again before a button press is registered. Maybe a simple check for whether the screen is on or off could be done to cancel the dim mode if the screen is turned off. Also, it would be nice for the app to auto exit dim mode when iRule is brought back into focus (app switch).
