Drawers

Anyone worked out how to implement the drawer function so the background is transparent so you only see buttons. For instance if you pin the drawer effectively you can build an global/ alias volume button set for all your pages/ panels.

Can't get my head round it.

Any help appreciated.

Right now it is not possible to have a transparent background for your drawers. This is a good idea and hopefully we can add it in a future release.

I guess we got to caught up with our standard iRule theme that we didn't even think about it.

Sorry! we will try to keep you updated on the status of this feature

  • If you're going to pin the drawer and all your pages use the same background it should be easy to "fake" just set the drawer to use the same background and it should be close. Depending on what you're using for your background you may possibly need to "mirror" it so it's reversed based on how the drawers actually work (opposite sides, etc.)

Worst case you'd need to make a custom drawer background that just looked like what you are overlaying.

Definitely a little bit of a workaround but it should work fine for your use case.

  • A further use of this would be to have a side drawer, for example, that only covers part of the side since it's transparent. So, imagine a home button on the top of the side that is different on each screen (has to stop different things, etc.), but, the rest of the side is the same. I could have a pinned drawer which is transparent and thus exposes the home button so it can work specific to that screen.

Not sure what happens as well if you have a pinned right drawer, AND, a pinned bottom drawer, though, I am wanting to use that as well.

It also appears if you limit the height of the drawer page, when you pin that page, it actually stretches it vertically. All of these are barriers to having a pinned drawer that only covers part of a side.

And yes, the background is a lot of work to try and make it line up and look good at least in my pattern.

  • Transparent background is actually possible. I first tried the good old html trick with a 1x1px transparent png file. Didn't work, iRule wouldn't import it. Perhaps it was too small? Tried 100x100 px, still no go. Colored a single pixel and hey presto! Transparent drawer! ;)

    So:
    * Create an image (size doesn't matter, but make it large enough so you can easily select it in iRule builder (100x100 px is fine).
    * Color a single pixel (preferably with opacity at 1%, it wouldn't be noticeable)
    * Save as png with transparency (gif might also work, haven't tried it)
    * Make sure that the page with your drawer contents has this image as the only background.
    * ...
    * Profit! (or at least a transparent drawer)

    Hi All,

In the upcoming update to the builder and the app, Drawers that have no background will have transparent background.
