How to replace TV HDMI Input on all pages?

I've recently changed my TV and replaced the old device with the new device. So far so good.

I have now realized that I used to connect my Bluray player through my AV/reciever and now I have to connect my new 4K UHD player directly to the new 4K UHD TV as my AV/Reciever can only transport 4K up to 30Hz.

So how do I change the input from HDMI 2 to HDMI 1 on several pages?

  • If you have a Pro license, iRule can change Devices for you, like when you changed to a new tv. This replacement swaps commands on your buttons from the old Device to the new Device. However, you probably have some more changes to do.

You probably have a macro for each activity in your system, like Watch Bluray and Watch Sat TV. These macros setup the system for that activity. In EACH macro, you now need to specify the correct TV input.

On the Watch Bluray macro, you need to select the TV's HDMI input that your UHD player is connected to.

On the other activities, you need to select the TV's HDMI input that your av receiver is connected to. It does not hurt anything to tell the tv to switch to HDMI 1, for instance, if the tv is already on HDMI 1.

If you are turning on the tv as part of the macro, you may need to have several seconds between turning on the tv and setting the input. TV's typically will not respond to commands for several seconds after you turn them on. I normally turn on the tv as the first command in my macro. I set the tv input as the last command in the macro. There is normally still a delay before setting the input. I play around with the delay to find the shortest delay that still reliably sets the tv input.

    Hope this helps,

    Mike

  • Hi Mike

    Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I have a Pro license, so I have already changed the Device (Panasonic => LG), which swapped most of the commands.

What I have not found an easy way to do, is to replace most "Set LG input to HDMI 2" with "Set LG input to HDMI 1" without going into all macros and conditional behaviors - but it seems like I have to go through all of those one by one then...

  • Hi Ekstrom,

Unfortunately there is no easy way to update the macros. I would guess that most of them that need updating will be in buttons that take you from one "activity" to another.

    Happy hunting!

  • Hi Mike

    You are quite right ;-)
I will need to update my matrix of devices/events/commands - and then implement it step by step.
