Invisible images

Having trouble adding some background images. The (iOS) app ignores them.

I place them in the Builder. Sync to the iPhone 6, but when viewing the relevant Page, that image is simply not displayed. It's there in the Builder, not on the iPhone. At first I simply thought it was because the images are only referenced via variables, so I placed one directly in the background and sync'ed again. Nah, still nothing showing.

After repeated sync'ing I realised the image was finally being displayed. Why now? Why not the first time?

This raises as question. Does iRule know to 'download' an image from a library when it is only used via a variable? Or does it need to have been actually placed somewhere on a Page for it to know that image is needed?

I'm assuming the latter is NOT the case since that would be really stupid and also I'm sure I have previously been successfully using images solely referenced via a variable. But that then leaves unexplained the problem of why when I try to use these images, they are simply not being displayed initially.

Anyone else seeing this?

Appears to be OK sync'ing to an iPhone 5, but the iPad Air 2 also failed to display the image the first time.

  • Might be just limited to the iPhone 6. I have managed to somehow get it to load one of the images, but no matter what I do, it refuses to display the other one.

Seems to be limited to background images. If I just use them in a button, they display OK, but the same image, on the same Page placed in the background does NOT display.

An official response would be appreciated.

  • When I first started using variables for images i noticed sometimes if I deleted an image the set variable would not work and then when I re added the image the number was different. Since then I have a page setup for images only and it is not accessible from the handset and I place all the images that i only access with variables that way I know the id number won't change. That was many builds ago. Not sure if it's still needed but not a bad practice either way. Not an official answer but maybe it will help.

  • There's a need of better image management certainly. As you say, there's no way to simply modify an image. It becomes a new image with a new ID and also no way to then replace all images used with the new version.

Don't get me started on the need for 'Themes' and to be able to easily swap them.

In any case, we could really do with some official answers to my questions about whether iRule should successfully load an image that is referenced only by variable and why there is a problem with background images on the iPhone 6 and what is being done about it.
